Is this worth the buy?

Milwaukee SM100 Smart pH Meter, SM 100

All the posts I have been reading say the same thing, everyone complains about having bought a shitty ph meter, so I am not gonna skimp on mine as I am running a DWC system and ph is pretty damn important.

I just want to know if this one is worth it or if anyone on here has this and can comment.

If not this meter any suggestions on another? I am on a slight budget and would rather only spend roughly $50 on a meter.

yeah they are cool if you leave them in a resevoir they wont have to be calibrated often(as long as you keep it plugged in). i had one from Hannah Instruments and it broke after about a year..

Ok so if anyone cares i talked to my local hydro dealer and he says stay away from milwaukee so im gonna scrap that.

However he did suggest the hanna champ pH tester, which is roughly $50 depending where you order from.

Im gonna give that a shot, thanks for input guys much appreciated.

EDIT: Price does not signify quality, HOWEVER for pH meters it does!

Oh yea thanks, but in my opinion a digital pH meter is much more accurate then trying to eye it out on a color scale, thanks anyway...

Yea I have read that same post actually >.< , but I think he is referring to the shitty $20 one, the one i was told to get was the 'champ' model... which runs roughly $50-$80 depeding on where you order. But thanks! xD

All pH meters suck ass. Get you some indicator drops. ;-)
I got that nice Hanna HI-9813 multi-meter that does everything (PH, TDS, EC). It's dead-on-balls accurate and not nearly as messy and annoying as those liquid test kits.

"But thanks" for what? Seems like you don't know enough to make an informed decision... but you're welcome. xD

I just look at the water and if I see yellow, it's good to go. No rinsing with distilled water, no calibration necessary, no replacement probes to buy, no reference solution to mess with. No having to calibrate before every test only to hope that maybe it will be as accurate this time.

You must have an uber set of eyes to determine pH by simply looking at the water! And I was thanking you for your opinion!:eyesmoke: And my decision is based upon reviews, posts and personally talking to a Hydroponics dealer who suggested the hanna 'champ' and said stay away from the cheaper models because they are indeed crap and he wouldnt even sell me one if i asked.

I have heard great things about that model, but the price is kind of out of my range  Buttt i might have to get it, buy right and you buy once they say

Agreed. I hate having to walk around to 3 or 4 different light sources and getting different "reading of color". I dont trust my eyes nor my lights. I just bought the milwuakee pH51 today. I am lucky i did bc for some unknown as of now reason one of resavoirs had dropped to 2.4. The drops would have only registered that as 4.0 or below. No time for guessing, instant accurate gratification is the best.

plus it is easier than having to rinse the damn test tubes out after each adjustment.

Dude.... it's the color yellow!...... it's not as difficult as you think.

You need a range of pH for maximum absorbtion of the individual nutrients. Let that shit slide.

I've had my milwaukee Ph600 for a few months now.
It's only $15.00 because it's not water proof, it's not a Pocket Ph
Tester.
I just take care of it. I clean it after each use and I calibrate it once
a week in the calibration solution. I've never had any problems with it.
I was gonna buy the PH/TDS/EC multi-Meter but they want to much money
I ended up with a $20.00 Non-water proof TDS tester works great

Read up on it some more. I wouldn't trust the guy at the store.

You should go back to the local hydro guy who gave you the recommendation and buy it from him. Sounds like you will need more advice from him down the road, take care of him and he will take care of you. You can usually talk grow stores down a few bucks too if you're cool with them.
