Different smell, same strain.

Hey folks! This is both an update on my first ever grow, and a question.

Finstead off, I had 3 plants, all of which were from the same batch of seed that I was told was from a white widow plant. But, each plant has a different bud structure, and a different smell. One smells very floral, one pungent and floral, and one just pungent. Is it odd to have that? I mean, I know a bit of genetic drift can be expected from seed, but, to this extent, it seems odd. They all had the same treatment, and grew in the same environment.

Next, I harvest 1 of my 3 plants yesterday! It was a bit early, but they all hermied due to my dumb ass bumping my light timer :( This one was popping out pollen sacks quicker than I could keep up with, but it looked fairly finished up, so I decided why not chop her. Only 7 weeks of flowering, and surprisingly it seems fairly done, check out the pic of the trichomes and tell me if y'all think it's as done as I do. Definitely not ambered, but they're cloudy. Total wet, trimmed weight from it was 237g, so not bad for a first time and being super full of seeds! 33" tall at the end, topped, and in a 5 gallon pot with FF Happy Frog and Ecoscraps potting mix, and all organic homemade nutes. I tried some of the resin from my scisors, and it certainly aint bad! It's now slow drying, then will get cured 2 weeks. Minus a small sample, of course :P

Cheers!

Just a bit of advice i wouldn't weigh stuff wet not really worth the time + you usually lose like 60-80% of the weight when it is dried/cured correctly. As far as different smell from the same strain could just be different pheno's

What you are experiencing is called phenotypes just as explosive said and it can sometimes be a very broad variety. While it might be possible, i dont think the timer that hermied them. Think about it, if you found the seed in the bag then that genetic trait could be passed on to its offspring especially after it pollinated itself with its own genes.

Dont forget to rid the room of pollen after you are done. The grow room fans can actually hold on to them and keep them viable for a month in my case.

Thanks guys! Oh definitely, different phenos would make sense, I just wanted to get some further oppinions. And it could be the case that they're genetically more likely to hermie, but I did notice it happened shortly after I bumped from 12 to 12.5 hours on one plant (and I didn't catch that for a week), then shortly after resetting to 12, the others went as well. Plus I made two other mistakes - watering with cold water every time, and doing some fairly heavy pruning about 3 weeks into flower. Overall, they had a stressful as hell life. Oh well, we'll see what happens with the clones, and that'll tell me for sure. And the whole area will be getting cleaned like hell for sure. I can't do this many seeds... lol.

Different smells happen when you use seeds. One pollen grain per ovum. The pollen grains and eggs are all slightly different, and smell is the amalgamation of many genes so yeah you get a lot of variation.

I would of let it grow another 1-2 more weeks you could of doubled that yield expect to lose 75% weight so you should have about 2 oz dry

just grew 2 pyramid seeds Tutankhamen and one smelt like coffee, the other like lemons. lemon was stronger...as others said its all phenos

Yeah, originall I was planning on letting it go the full 9 weeks, but with all the pollen sacks it was putting out, I wasn't worth it for me. The other two will get the full duration though! And with as seedy as this is, it probably didn't hurt my yield by more than a few grams -- buds virtually stopped growing a couple weeks ago, it was just working on its hundreds of seeds. But, either way, the uncured sample I took smokes alright, and most of the bud off these will become hash anyway. Good leaning experience for future grows nonetheless!

You would be surprised I almost pulled this blue dream last week and I'm going to wait another 1-2 weeks to pull her as it's looking like 11 week strain my yield has doubled I should get 8oz dry which is really good, but you would be surprised pulling it 1-2 weeks early can produce as much as 30% more as all your weight comes in the last few weeks. I bet you could of pulled another 2-3 oz dry if you would of waited 1-2 weeks, but yeah I used to pull too early and wonder why I didn't yield alot but trial and error, why turn it into hash why ruin a good plant? Use the leaves and turn it into some wax and smoke up that good but, but happy growing!

Oh didn't see the seed thing till now, did she hermi on you? I wish I could seed some of my plants, I'm going to try and force them to hermi to produce some good seeds.

Yep, all three did. I'm guessing it was a combination of accidentally bumping my lights to 12.5 hours, then a week later when I realized it, turning them back to 12, as well as cold water on every watering, probably a bit heavy of nutes, repotting during flower, and pruning a fair bit a couple weeks into flower. So, yeah, lots of little mistakes made for a lot of stress for the poor things. If it hadn't gotten polinated super heavily, I would've definitelly let it go a full 9 weeks, but I'm much less concerned with the yields off of these. Still decent smoking bud once the seeds are out, so probably the popcorn and trim will become hash/wax, and the tops will be saved for smoking. I should get a much better yield on the next batch -- monster cropped and topped, and I'm managing to avoid a lot of the little mistakes from the first time. They are all looking super healthy and happy! :) Hoping for 6+ dry each on the next round! And props to you, 8oz dry is a hell of a yield IMO!

If you want high yielder, get Humboltd blue dream never had one yield less then 7oz dry but they do get tall in a 5 gallon usally 5-6 feet tall and run a little longer 10-11 weeks but def worth it, I think I'm going to run a full batch of these from seed when I get some more but I normally like growing a bunch of different kinds, but each grow gets better, I think this is my 5-6th grow, my first couple were bug and mold city so you do learn alot

Sweet! I've actually been look at Blue Dream for some coming batches. Although the height is a bit of a concern as I can have about 4' tall plants at best in my flower area. I suppose I could do SOG on them though! I'll have to set something like that up soon, cause I plan on getting some Kilimanjaro (African landrace pure sativa) seeds for my next grow, and I'm guessing those suckers are gonna get tall as hell!

yes I have two different strains of white widow from two different companies and I was wondering why one smelled totally different than the other. One is flowery and the other is not and smells a bit off and I’ve been worried, but it’s a brand new batch from the company Passiflora. I hope it’s ok and not mold or anything. It’s been lab tested though and passed.

Every pheno is gonna be different. It's like having a baby unless you clone it the genetics are gonna be different. I've had a few different white widows. Smelled like cheese other smelled skunky

OK cool man. Thanks a lot. I’m a little disappointed in the white widow from the company Passiflora. It’s not as euphoric as another white widow I had. This one is closer to a hybrid or Indica. It was more relaxing than anything. Not what I hoped for.
