Did I screw up my seeds

Alright bear with me this is my first time growing (clearly)

Last night I put my seed into a cup of water for about 6 hours, it sank after the first 2.

Im not sure really what to look for if it cracked or not, when I took it out the dimpled side like opened up so there was a tiny hole

I then put it into a ph'd soaked rockwool cube and called it a night and went to bed, this morning the rockwool cube was a little dry so curiousity got the best of me and I opened up the rockwool cube a bit to see if there was any progress (still looks the same from when I took it out of the glass of water)

so I pinched it back closed, gave it some water and left it alone again. Should it still be alright even though I messed with it a bit.. I think im being just a little to impatient

First grows are intimidating especially when you only have 3 seeds

yah, you should be alright.. it can take up to around three to five days to get it to sprout..
just don't keep messing around with it though, more than likely if you continue to do so you'll end up fucking up the seed.. :)

oh yah, make sure to keep the rw cube moist and don't let it dry out as that could also kill the seed..

I don't germinate before hand. all i do is drop the seed into some fox farm dirt and let it rip. however occasionally i have peaked at the seed to see if its showing its tap root. there's nothing wrong with that.

I went and got a propagation dome, I got 2 trays, the one that the cubes go into then like a flood tray under it. Should I put any water in the bottom tray to raise the humidity?

yah, i would think about putting just a lil bit of water in the bottom... just enough to do like you say, to raise the humidity a lil bit.. this will also help with keeping the rw cubes moist and you won't have to worry as much about having to be around to water them..
i've never germed in rw cubes, but i've read that a lot of people on here don't like using them too much..
i personally have gotten into rapid rooters as of late for starting my beans in.. they work pretty killer imo..

oh yah, did you happen to soak the rw cube in ph'ed water for a few hours before you put the beans in them?? i've heard that's the way to do it with rw cubes.. but like i said, i don't have much experience with them, i'm only repeating what i've read on here before..

I ran them through water to get rid of residue then soaked them in PH'd water for a couple hours, correct me if im wrong arent the rapid rooters for soil? or can they be used for hydro aswell

These are ultimatly going to end up in my DWC setup

i don't see why rr's couldn't be used for another application other than soil, but maybe you're right, not sure since i do grow in dirt.. :)

Man I hope the heat mat doesnt get to hot for them.. I dont have a thermometer for them at the moment. My ambient temps are 73, the mat doesnt feel tthat hot though, maybe in the 80s

yah, the 80s are perfect for germing seeds.. i think it's around 80 / 85 or so is the ideal temps for germination..

I turned it off at the moment, seemed like it was getting a little hot, 90+. heat mats are a waste without a thermostat to control them. It's humid as hell in there though so they should be fine. hope to see some progress tommorow ._.

yah, 90 plus sounds a bit too hot.. i don't use a heat matt at all, although i always say i want to get one..
i like to put my beans in between a paper towel and into a ziplock baggy till i see the taproot showing before i put them into their medium to grow in.. this way a) it allows you to know that the seeds are going to germ .. and b) it takes less time for them to break the soil, in your case, the top of the rw cube..
doing it your way will work fine as well, it just takes a few days longer is all, and also you won't know if you have any dudes till they don't break the surface for a couple of days..
i'd just worry about keeping the humidity up for now though, and you should be fine..

also, do you have them under any light atm?? i forget if you had said so or not right now.. some people will put them right under the lights even before the seed breaks the surface, and others will wait till it's above..
i like to use some very soft lighting for the first week or so as i had tons of problems when i first started out using hps lights for my seedlings.. i kept getting the seedling too dry, and killing them.. ever since then, i've switched over to either a t5 or a couple of cfls for the first week or so, and my results are much better now..

I have a mh/hps but Im not using it at the moment. Should I turn it in? Its in a cooltube so it doesnt give off to much heat and its about 3-4 feet above the plants

edit: its a 400 watt

I was considering using it since it would make the temps perfect but i dont want to dry out my plants, Im going to home depot tonight maybe ill pick up a couple CFLs

Also they were fem seeds so they better not be males lol

it's really up to you, but like i said, i like to use a couple of cfl's, even if just for the first week or two, then i'll put them under my hps / mh's..

if you're going to pick up a few cfls, just try to get the biggest actual wattage ones you can find, and make sure it's in the 6500k range.. it will say it on the box somewhere what k it is... just make sure you read the box well is all..

I already know the closest they have is like 5500k i think it was they were 100 watt equivalents . I got some before then ended up returning them since i went with HID lighting.

The only thing thats a little concerning at the moment is I dont know how moist the bottom of the rockwool is. The tops feel moist but the cubes are really jammed in there and I dont want to pull them out to check, the mat did get a little hot so i hope it didnt dry out the bottom of them.

Ill feel alot better once i start seeing some sprouts

thanks for addressing all my noobish concerns haha
