Did I get screwed?

So I went to my local hydro store in search of some nutrients to pair with promix hp for my first time ever using it. I had planned on using dry amendments since most other videos I watched did the same.. The guy there claimed I only needed these two as a beginner grower to be satisfied with the grow. Also noticing on the bottle it says soft water version… pretty sure where I live the water is more so hard and I just missed it on the bottle. Regardless of that. Did this dude steer me in a complete wrong direction? Is there truly nothing else I need in conjunction with these two bottles? I’m a beginner and I’m just feeling like I was fed complete bullshit. Feeling stupid over here.

Canna nutes work just fine.

It's actually kinda refreshing that your local store recommended a simple solution rather than trying to up-sell you with needless bottles of snake oil.

* "soft water" vs. "hard water" formula is a generally just a little more Ca & Mg in the soft-water version; the logic being that harder water will already contain some Ca & Mg.

Canna nutes are good.
You would have gotten screwed if they had sold you a bunch of unnecessary additives.

Solid answer. Very much appreciated. It just seemed so basic after watching so many different videos and reading different forums on mixing up pro mix. Thanks again!

Is there recommended feeding guide for these nutrients for a medium like promix hp? Something similar to fox farms guide?

Quick question again if you don’t mind? The gentleman sold me substra vega when I mentioned I was using promix hp…. Is this going to work in this medium? If not I have straight Canna coco coir, but I feel a little too inexperienced to try to dabble with coco quite yet.

I wouldn't use anything but coco.........but that's just me. It doesn't take experience to successfully grow in coco.
Your canna substra vega is designed to be used in a drain to waste hydro set up.........so either would be fine. You will have to get canna substra Flores for flowering.........the vega is for veg only.
Mix a 70/30 coco perlite mix.
Start in solo cups and start feeding light nutes to run off starting around 3-4 days after sprout.
Transplant around 2 weeks from sprout...........2 - 3 gallons pots are fine.
Feed daily to run off once a day in veg and twice a day in flower.
Never let the coco dry and never use plain water.
If you Google canna substra feeding chart it will pop up.

Ahhh. Gotcha. I’m not running a drain to waste hydro set up. I was just manually watering plants.. So can I still just mix it up and pour it in like regular liquid nutrients? Or do I have to set it up as a run to waste? I have them sprouted in the solo cups. All I have those is 5gal fabric pots. Think that will still be ok? Or should I go buy some 3 gallon?

Hand watering is fine, but you do want to water it until there is some drainage, preferably 10-15% of the total volume watered. Be careful not to water too frequently though. Water only when needed until there is plenty of root mass, but always water to drain to avoid any salt buildup. Once your plant is full rooted you can start with the daily waterings, but if you water too frequently before they are well rooted, you will only slow things down and lead to a less than pristine root zone.

You may need a container size between solo cups and 5 gallon pots. I personally go solo cup, to 1-1.5 gal to 5 gal though with care, you could go straight from solo to 5 gal.

Get yourself a ph and ppm meter asap. Figure out the level your base water is, if under 100 ppm or .2 ec, you may want to snag a bottle of calmag. You will likely only need 2-3 ml of your A and B per gallon for little seedlings and up to maybe 6-7 ml per gallon when fully vegged. I aways read about people using waaaay more canna nutrients but I keep perfectly happy plants in coco without ever exceeding 600 ppm.

If you are going to be using canna products (which I can personally endorse) only other product you MAY want to use is some Rhizotonic. It’s a great rooting supplement that can be used a bit lightly and still benefit greatly from. While I use their whole coco lineup, I will say Boost is very expensive for a new grower who is still learning. Cannazym is fairly cheap and also a solid product, but isn’t really that helpful until flower.

I think you're confused. Drain to waste hydro is done by either manual feeding from the top or an automatic drip system..........I feed manually from the top. No need to buy some 3 gallons pots............just use what you have.
They should look like this and ready to transplant around 2 weeks from sprout if you start feeding daily to run off starting around 3-4 days from sprout.

Yes definitely confused . Ok good to know. I will be manually feeding. Noted on the pot size.. I appreciate all the insight. Thanks!
