Ok so my main cola wasn't producing shit. The leafs at the top looked very weird and there was very little bud on the plant on the mail cola. I decided to try and bend over the very top of the plant and maybe was a little too aggressive and it snapped! very pissed:cuss:

Here is a picture before and after it happened. Look like it will make it? 6 weeks into flower.

Man you should have bent your plant a little lower down...maybe like at the start of the deformed leaves. How broke is it? From what you said before your cola might be a dud anyways...I know this doesn't help you now but try using LST during veg to keep it small and bushy. Plus are you using fluorescent grow bulbs? They usually don't run real hot you could have let it grow closer (unless it's a different type, in which case you know your setup better than I)

I know this is my first go at it next time i am going to LST. The top of my cola was less than an inch from my bulbs at all times. The cola broke completely off haha thats how broken it is. The cola looked like complete shit before i snapped it off. I didnt mean to "snap it off" i meant to bend it over and i was too aggressive with it and it snapped. Just hoping its going to be ok.

t5's are sub-par for flowering but they will work...plants thrive under a more red spectrum during flowering (hence HPS's dominance in the growing scene) if you have the money to do so you should get 300w equivalent 2700k CFL's for your plants they love it. Used 6500k 400w equivalent all the way to week 1 1/2 of flowering and they were doing decent and I replaced every 6500k with 2700k and they have absolutely taken off since then. People say CFL's can't produce dense buds...I'm on week 3 of Norther Lights #5 and already my girls are fat and frosty, lookin pimp.

That being said, t5's can do the job!

Using my lights I already had for a reef aquarium i used to own, switching the bulbs of course. Instead of investing in HPS I will gain knowledge of LST. I wouldn't say that my lights are whats causing the single leaf blades at the top of my plant. I would say either a light leak (which there is not one) or just bad genetics. Seeing its from bag seed I would say its bad genetics.

Yeah...well honestly you'll know what I mean about the buds being different without the right light spectrums after you harvest...but that's not the end of the world really. Look into FIM topping and LST so that you can keep your plants small, bushy, and still have very large yields. Topping is creating more main cola's, did it to one of my plants and honestly I wish I did em all. Looks so delicious with 4 fat buds instead of 1...

im sorry but if you had an hps, those buds would be rockin, really cant blame anything else.
yah prob not goin to be tht dense. also probably wont be to many leaves considering your lack of light.

Don't need to get a HPS setup to produce good buds! 2700k CFL's work fine as long as you have enough wattage on the plant. If you're broke you're broke, been there man. My current setup only cost me 350$ or so and I can easily do up to 10 plants during veg and 6 during flowering...all of them with 160w of CFL light (around 15k lumens per plant, using clamp lamps to angle lights most effectively on the plants) plus the advantage of CFL's is that they don't use much electricity, no heat (so no exhaust or cooling needed!), and can be placed just inches away from the plant.

For people like me with limited height CFL's make growing possible...heh.

HPS is great don't get me wrong but growing your plant right and optimizing the amount of light for each plant are just as important as being able to grow under HPS. Did a months worth of research and from everything I've gathered HPS is only worth it if you're doing enough plants to make running HPS worth it. Needs so much accessories to keep it going properly and to get max efficiency. That's counter productive to the everyday pothead who just wants to produce great smoke for him or herself! HPS is like training wheels for bad growers I've noticed...it's also like steroids for plants in the hands of a great grower though!

ya i would've switched to the 2700's during flower, couldnt spring the $30? and you could get hella lights for tht much off the internet
