I make about 2-4g of ISO hash a week from my trim, and it tastes, and smells just like the bud it came from. If he's cooking it off in a crockpot thats the first problem, it will destroy the terepenes, and give it a harsh nasty taste. If he is useing real ISO then all that should be left after the alcohol evaps is some water. After that evaps you are left with a nice clean product. Some times its shatter, some times wax depends on the material.
