Determine gender by smell

Has anyone experimented with this? I had 10 plants i am waiting to show gender. 2 have shown female and they smell DANK. I have 4 other plants that are really strong smelling and 4 that have almost no smell at all. I have marked them female and male, just to see if i am right in guessing that the funky ones will be female.

IMO, No you can't. I have had some very pungent males. The males usually are the larger faster growing plants but not always.

Sorry to say it works only on Mammals including Humans, it works by the female of the species sniffing the male, if she likes whats she smells ..Money and lots of it...you get a freebie for now, but will seek payment later .....lol

And sometimes with some strains...the girls dont smell much at all. Does not mean that the THC levels wont be high...its just the nature of the beast! Strain and pheno dependent. I dont call them girls until I can see those first pre flowers...then and only then. I have years of experience using regular seeds so learning to sex plants has become second nature and there are SOME tale tale signs that are true for females and males but I take that with a grain of salt because I have seen what I was sure was gonna be a girl, turn out to be a male and vise versa! Preflowers Amigo...preflowers! And there ya go!

My variety that I bred my self, you won't know for certain until you see hairs. I've even had it where nothing but female pre flowers show with no hairs... End up being male.... The stalks that the male flower tend to sit upon are very short on my plants and can fool you.

however I've recently read an article a year ago or so. That someone would plant 20seeds and some would pop up red stems vs white stems.... I always discard red stems. It SEEMS to work MANY times that I've done it this way. That's not saying you will get a female every time from a white stem... But I think it may increase the chances.

Just about every myth that the internet throws out there about how to tell sex before a plant actually sexes has been disproven time and time again. You will know the sex when the plant sexes. Until then it is nothing more than a guessing game.

Unfortunately growing plants requires patience and sexing occurs at a specific time. I remove the guess work by purchasing feminized seeds. Especially in small grow spaces where you cannot afford to have males taking up space, buying all female seeds is the way to go in my experience.

Some have had success with this chart on identifying the correct seeds before planting. Again, I don't chance it and just buy all female seeds.
