How do these people (who cant get IDs) work? Every job I have ever had they asked for birth certificate, social security card, and or drivers license? How do they cash checks? If they dont have a bank account (which they need ID for) they have to have ID to cash the check. Any way you turn it, still ends up with anyone who wants an ID can go get one. You only have to do it once. Heck, dont you need social security card, birth certificate, ID to apply and receive welfare? I am pretty sure you do. This is really a non-issue to me. The only people it hurts are those who want to cheat.
Show of hands, who here was going to vote, but now cannot or in the future will not be able to because they cannot get ID?
Many of them are students, many live in retirement homes, many live as best they can whereever they are. I see Althor that you fall victim to the perception that everyone must surely be like you. They must be in a situation like yours and you can't seem to fathom any other way of living but your own. Realize that many who don't know the particulars believe that any ID is sufficient in any state, this is not true as I have stated. In at least one state, one can cash a check, make a deposit and qualify to purchase liquor with a military ID that is not acceptable for voting because it does not expire.
"anyone who wants Id can get one" - not necessarily. We know that perhaps as many as 5 million people in this country do not currently have the ID needed to vote. In many cases folks who have been voting for decades have been rendered incapable of voting because of the new ID laws - and in many cases they don't even know and my not find out until they arrive at their polling place.
It is a non-issue to you because you cannot comprehend that anyone is different than you Althor.
Now the fact is that there is little if any widespread voter fraud in this country.
If voter ID laws prevent the few abusers from voting but also keep hundreds of thousands of legitimate voters from casting their vote then anyone who is for such laws are patently un-American - that is, if Americans believe that anyone who can vote should be able to.
Any observation of what is happening regarding voter ID can clearly perceive that it is a strong effort to limit voting. We know that Republicans see limited voting as a way of getting their people in office.
What you seem to be supporting is preventing anyone who is not like yourself from casting a vote - why do you want to keep people from voting Althor?
