deformed?

Here is the story of this one:

planted in a cocoa pellet. in the coco it grew its first single spear leafs and seemed to stop after. as weeks go on it doesnt grow any larger or any leaves but roots are poking out the bottom like crazy. Also noticed the single spear leaves started to brown at the ends, because of this i knew i needed to do something or it was going to die. this was at 3 weeks from sprout, still very small also

I moved in soil and within a day it perked back up and started growing again. a week later it has next set of leaves, with 3 spears, a week later the next set are forming, however they dont look normal. These would normally would have 5 spears, however one side has 5 and the other only 2 spears?

Is that a sign of anything to be concerned about? I plan on growing it out anyway but just curious what others think

Any kind of stress can cause this. If you keep them stable, it takes 3 to 5 nodes before it starts producing normal leaves. They should be fine.

Cool, and thanks for the reply! I think my temps are stressing them, fluctuates from 70-84'F. Perhaps my light is too close as well because there is almost no spacing between cotlydons, first spears, second. 4x23wat CFL about 6" recently moved it up to about 12"

I tried to take some pics however my digital camera is an older model and doesnt focus well up close.
Im hoping to barrow a friends digi to snap some clear pics, if im able to then i will most definitely post them!

This may sounds silly to some but what is considered the first node? cots, first single spears, .. ?
I am a heavy reader however i haven’t come across anything that has clarified this for me.

those old pbs commercials come to mind "The more you know!" lol which is so true... knowledge is power. (in this case the power to eliminate dealing with scumbags, to be safer and peaceful!)

camera still doesnt do justice but here we go, i outlined the leaves so they stand out, will post more as they develop.. 3 spears on left, 2 on right. the two in middle are new set starting.

Here is an update. This one is growing slow.
That pic above is 250 ml cup, after week or so roots were all over so I moved it to larger container (~1 gal).
As for the blades, this one is very interesting (to me anyway).
Set of leaves #1 has 3 blades on both sides
Set #2 has 3 blades on one side and 2 on other (mentioned above post)
set #3 has 5 blades on both sides
set #4 has 3 blades, one side the middle blade grew crooked kind of
after this the leaf sets are growing lopsided
set #5, both 3 blades but one side notably larger than other
set #6, both 3 blades, one larger than other side
set #7, just starting but already can tell one side is larger than the other (or one side is smaller than other however you look at it.)

This one growing very well, WAS growing very uniform however The last set of leaves has 4 blades on one side (right side you can see if you look close)(5 on other side)
Im not worried about this one as it looks very healthy but i find it interesting
almost makes me wonder if my environment causes this or sheer coincidence this one is soil from the beginning (actually started 3 weeks after the above plant. Im using MG Organic choice potting mix soil, part organic and part slow release ...so the bag says....... about 1/4 mg perlite mixed in. In these pics I notice a light yellow in the middle of the plant, is that a sign that I should begin feeding? right now they are getting just water twice a week when soil gets dry, about 500ml of h2o, distilled, also pumping in co2 occasionally unregulated (these in a sealed box and temps 75-84 with co2)

You answered the question..
MG slow release KILLS seedlings... you can not regulate the amount of nutes it releases, and it just releases more and more with every watering.
Seedlings are NOT supposed to be fed AT ALL until they have 3 sets of true leaves.... they are already over-fed by the soil you used.. the MG all organic is fine- ALONE and you do not need to feed until they are at least 4 weeks past the 3-set-of-leaves stage....(that is when Veg begins)

IF POSSIBLE---
Carefully uproot the plant- replant it into just the Organic Choice- do NOT add the slow release... do not feed for 3 weeks, and do not over-water...

Otherwise- chalk it up to a learning experience and start over with a new seed....

Hi Zandra, I was not clear in my post I apologize. They are only in MG organic choice potting mix. The bag says this is composed of organic and slow release nutes. slow release nutes come from nitrogen from pasteurized poultry litter. this is also mixed with MG perlite. I was under impression (im a newb here so please hang in there with me) that a nute burn will cause edges of leaves to burn like yellow or brown and yellowing from the center is normally caused by a deficiency...? THX!!
