Spl when do you start defoliating I wouldn't defoliate in the veg stage by any means. But for flowering it makes sense yes they are solar panels but I'm not chopping ever fan leaf and we will see the net weight at the end hoping to get 4,000 grams
Wait! Your following a guy that defoliates in veg and the thread CLEARLY shows it! Yet, you don't follow what he's doing? You won't defoliate in veg? Your reasoning to reach the result your looking for is wrong if you short cut the method...
I have a close and long time friend who is a member of our growers "co-op". In fact I'm going up to see him today. He defoliates and I've seen this for years now.....Bald plants that are so defoliated it makes me cringe! He gets big yields of
small rock hard buds. His yields are impressive weight wise.....I feel his quality is not near potential. I mean, I can't buy his meds for my shops. They sit there in their jars too long. People do try them but, in the end, they always come back to the big fat jar filling buds that simply look big. It's called bag appeal....
Now there is a guy on this site who has posted shots of massive cola's that he states are from "progressive" defoliation. He removes EVERYTHING but the mains....Looks real nice....I'd like to know more about that BUT, he uses several makers synthetic products and says he is organic because they are "made from" organic sources......No their not organic in the bottle - their made by Chelation. Chelation involves breaking chemical bonds with a Chelating agent, in our case it's usually EDTA (EDTA, DTPA, EDDHA). EDTA will keep the fertilizer components in a liquid form. Mostly the metals. VERY FEW synthetic Nutrient makers will list any of the above agents in their ingr. label! He and I don't get along - so we won't see him posting here how he does it.
I offer these as a counter point to the "theory" of defoliation so light gets to the buds and makes them bigger.

And this one is a newer follow-up.

A tip of the hat to Uncle Ben and Riddle for starting such wonderful threads!
If I feel the end bud is too small for the jar. I simply make concentrates from them....Lollypopping done in my ops are only the very short lower branching that simply takes away from the rest of the plant.....SOME very limited tiny bud site removal on inner branch's (the lowest) at the end of the stretch and that's it for this guy!
Good Luck berries and keep the thread going with pics so we can see what happens!
