Deep pots for Autos?

Hi Folks, my understanding is that autos like plenty room below to grow the main tap root, and the success of this root largely determines the success of the final plant (some generalisations, i know, but in an effort to get to the point...). has anyone found greater success using deeper than normal pots, and if so, did you buy them or make them yourself?

i am in UK and cannot seem to find what i am looking for, i.e. a pot approx 15 - 20 litres that has the same diameter as a 12 litre pot (sorry, 4.5 litre = 1 gallon). the pots i find all get wider as they get bigger. I'm now considering making my own deep pot from 2 smaller pots.

any advice on pots for autos?

Thanks

Hi Reeferfriend, have you had a look at Rhizo-pots?They are made of canvas and they air prune the roots.they are the same
width all the way down.Growell sell them,@ various sizes whichever suits ya.£3.25 for a 30litre one.I am currently growing
a plant in a black canvas shopping bag,and its doing ok.Im gonna try these Rhizo-pots myself soon or get some more shopping bags.
Your idea will work, but more room all round will be better than just down.
I am also in the UK,there are other places that sell them, just look on ebay or Amazon.
Hope this helps Reefer. Good luck.

5 gallon buckets work pretty well outdoors here in the u.s they have them at all tge local hardware stores for 2 or 3 bucks and they are super handy for lits if stuff. Pretty deep compared to nursery pots. And my autos are always pretty massive when grown in them, so i guess there is at least some validity to that statrment about them not growing after hitting the edge of the pot but im no expert just my observation..... plus im pretty high haha

I like to find garbage cans that are square or rectangle. They fit in your grow room really well without wasting space....More soil = more roots = more buds.

i'm using re-usable shopping bags (made with weaved fabric).. i chose them because they were just as breathable as fabric pots but they are 12" deep.. 12x8x12.. i use wire to help them hold some shape.. they ended up 12x10x12.. plus the fact that i picked them up for $7 for six as opposed to $5/pc... however.. i have been thinking about making my own pots just using some quality heavy landscape fabric

every auto ive ever grown the tap has grown at a 45 it hits the edge goes down towards the bottom and is pretty much woody / barky from the edge of the pot to the stalk
thats why its hit and miss with air pots if the tap just happens to hit a pruning hole its game over no more vertical

Step up your container game and get some super roots air pots they are the best! The canvas bags are best for outside in case you need to move it.

I start mine in a taller square rose pot and transplant to a 7gal air pot still in veg. I know some people say not to transplant but I get good results as long as its transplanted and recovered before flowering starts. if I start em in the 7gal they get big too fast
