Debating Grow Tent Size & If I should go CFM Overkill

It was my buddy who ran the filter that way because he didn't know not to without filtering the air going in. I wasn't aware of the problem until I used the filter for the first time recently. I'll need to add more hose to give the ozone longer contact time with the aromatic molecules so it works better but there's barely a whiff of pot outside now as it is. I live out in farmland so odor control isn't that much of a priority but people do drop by to buy eggs and I'd rather they not get the full stink when they step out of their vehicles.

I have credentials as well and over well over 30 years working in various industries like hazardous waste disposal, stack testing at pulp mills, concrete plants and the like. Also grew my first buds in 1978 so have a bit of experience there too.

Your first calculations were useless in the real world and if you apply that kind of logic to your engineering it's no wonder you try to lord your "superior" knowledge over people you think use "stoner science" to figure things out.

I'd wager you'd be laughed off an engineering forum. Already happening here. ;)

Right...because who really needs math and facts when you have opinions. Just curious...since we are talking about science here (and we are)...can you give a math based answer that backs any of what you are saying? in sizing an industrial exhaust application I use Q=VxA for source capture...or Airflow / Volume for ambient capture...what do you use besides throwing dung at a wall and hoping for the best?

Also, your comment about Engineers being laughed off web forums epitomizes the stupidity of opinion based arguing.

Just found a 48x48x80 tent for the same price as the 39x39x78, by the brand I was previously going to buy from. With a little extra space I may be able to fill in some cfl around the plants like I had originally wanted to. Will allow some extra room when I get to the tomatoes and other veggies also.

The height of the tent shouldn't dictate your light height. Get a pair of light ratchets for about $10. Then move your lights up and down according to PLANT height.

Right, the lights will be moved correspondingly with the plant height. But if the tent was only 5 ft, then the plant reaches a point where it cannot grow any higher or it will be too close to the light, for the light cannot be raised any higher than the tent roof height. This is why I wanted to go with a higher tent roof.

Yes, but the added tent height doesn't change the distance between the plant and the lights.

I advise not to buy too small a tent for 3 plants max. I also bought one like this at first and had to sell it then cause I ended up with about 10 plants and they just didn't have enough space. Get the big one right away.

I don't know about anyone else but...... if you have the room, go with the larger tent. You'll appreciate that extra space a bit more about 3 weeks into flower.
I also know this is a 5-year old thread but I'll also put a word in for getting whatever footprint you need but go TALLER. 60" (5ft) may seem tall enough until you hang lighting and put in an upper exhaust fan. I have no sads about buying a tent that's 80" tall...and wish it was even a bit more.

I've been hunting around for an 8x4 that's a little less than 80" tall. I have room for it downstairs but there's a support beam about 6' along that is only 78.5" off the floor and I don't want to cut out the extra room I'd need. I think it's VivoSun that makes one with a hip roof deign that's only 72" tall but I really don't like the roof. Think I'll just frame in the space and line everything with panda film. I bought a 100' roll last year.

I didn't even realize that this was a 5 year old thread. I saw porijendels post and was backing him up. It's hard enough to remember everything else...

Let alone looking at the date to see when a post originally posted....

Anyway, I run in a 7foot tall basement. I run 4 foot tall Afghan x Mexican that I bred personally. Sometimes, being that they're Mexi crossed, they get a little stretch going on and will finish at 5 foot. So that leaves me with 2 feet between ceiling and light. So I have all these sheet rock screws in the side of the walls to tie para-cord to and then tie the branches, trying to open the centers of the plants and move them away from being so close to the light.

That's pretty much what I have done. We had a laundry room in the basement, that has been lined with white linoleum walls, 5' x 8' x 7'. I moved the laundry room upstairs the basement stays nice and cool all year, so I don't even have to mess with all the "extras" to make the room better, just throw some fans down and I got a grow room. Running currently on a 1000w hps with another 1000w coming next week.(actually 2 are coming as the ordering got screwed up and I ended up with an extra, which will be used to grow my outdoors stuff and start some veggies up.

Someone in the tent world would make a killing if they'd to made-to-order tent dimensions...wouldn't have to do full custom, but have a variety of pole stock in hand and mix-and-match it to the correct size, etc.

Or figure out how to implement telescopic poles... Then maybe use Velcro panels to adjust the height of the tent material. (make sense?) It does to me. lol!

That would be nice. I have access to a regular 8x4 old tent and thought of cutting the uprights down to size but then there's the problem of of the extra skin sagging down like someone losing a lot of weight. I've been planning for a long time to add on to my current grow room and framing in a space would do but since 3/8" plywood or OSB has gone up from $20 a sheet to over $100 and I need 5 or 6 that's out for now tho I may just frame it in and use panda film as walls. I may just use the tent as a small lab up in the shop to keep everything clean between uses. Wife needs to get the chickens and their cages out of the shop so I can use the space they are in first. Dust from them covers everything in no time.

They already make ones with extensions so something like that should work. I just need 2.5" shorter than the 80".

Get the big one right away. I bought a new one at grow tent review and it works better. Also, whenever it comes to power, pay attention to the "true power consumption" (that`s how much electricity is taken from the outlet) to estimate the strength of the light. Ignore "equivalent" costs, cause those are marketing terms without any objective meaning.
