Hi guys, first time grower here. Way long time smoker. Decided to try some grow
Recently I bought some WW on our recent honeymoon trip to holland.
Reason for WW = sturdy strain
Environment = 29-33c or 85-90f all year round
Humidity = high 70+ With ac maybe about 40

Had somewhat successful germination with paper towel method
Have moved the seeds with roots bout 1inch into presoak rockwool ph down (when I soak my rw for a day with the ph 5.5 I will test it with my ph pen and the soak water will show above 6.5)
So I will change the water and resoak it with ph 5.5 again and after half a day it ph will spike above 6.5 for sure
Is that normal?

Now I move them to the dome with temp about 26c and humidity about 60
Close to day 3 still no sign of life

Please advice guys thanks cheers

Okay, one inch is pretty long for going into rockwool so there is the risk of a broken tap root which would be game over for that one.

If it has been 3 days since the seed popped open and you still do not have a sprout, you probably won't get a sprout, but I would give them more time anyway just to be sure.

Be careful of your rh if you do get seedlings and still have a dome on - too high and you greatly increase risk of damping off. It is best to take dome off at first sign of sprout. I won't even germ with them but sounds like you are keeping the rh in check.

I read that the RW should soak in ph5?also I've been dropping my seeds into a glass of water until I see the seed split...than it goes into soil less party cups, outside in the sun.But these seeds are going into rock wool,

Soak the rockwool in 5 this should put it at about 5.8 I sometimes opt for 4.7 and that puts it at about 5.5. If they're allready in the rockwool then don't move them out of it. They don't really need the medium to be ph balanced if you're not adding nutrients, it's more of a start as you mean to go on kinda thing.
You need to be patient, as a rule I only soak the cube once. Aslong as its in a propogator it won't dry until after the plant has sprouted. I've had certain seeds take up to a week.
I however skip the paper towel bit and just put the seed straight in the rockwool cube.

Out of curiosity, you have used a rockwool cube haven't you? Not loose rockwool in a pot?

Hey bluebro, I have not used form of rockwool sad to say, I m living in a backward nation that they don't have any hydro accessories at all so I Have to source all of it neighboring country or ie rockwool my version is an insulation for ceiling not the GRODAN, I do hope it's the same :(

My last soak was ph 5 just to make sure.
Rh reading is at 61 is that ok too?
Light ccfl white bulb about 4" away in dome

Aw damn. Without knowing what brand you've used im gonna have to say that chances are they won't be sprouting, sorry. Most rockwool insulation has a fire retardant in it that will severely hinder growth.

Ah crap. That's too bad. There is non propogator I can find here. Any chance to save ie move the seed to a seedling soil now?

let it be, you will see roots (not a string of a root, but rootS) out the bottom, and a set or 2 of true leaves, then move it

Hey flagg thanks for the input however as stated by bluebro my rockwool ain't the usual GRODAN rockwool

As I can't find it locally I am using those original Insulation rockwool with fire resist

Pls advice

i can see a seed is trying to pop through should i leave it or still move into soil?
If the plant is allready trying to break through the surface its allready too late to remove the seedling. Ur best bet is going to be to wait until there is enough roots poking through the bottom so you can transplant to a more suitable medium.

Perlite
Vermiculite
Expanded clay pebbles (leca)
Fytocell
Coco coir
Any of these are suitable hydroponic mediums. Your other option is to transplant to soil.

What size piece of insulation is the seedling in?If it's in anything bigger than 1"x1"x2" (LxWxH)then cut it down to that size. That way there will be less fire retardant to mess with your plant.

Leave it be then, once you start getting roots out of the bottom transplant it straight into the new medium. I would be hesitant of adding any nutrients at all until after transplant, I don't know for sure but I don't imagine any reaction between your nutrients and the chemical they use as fire retardant to be a good one. Each time you water the seedling in rockwool really flush it through, don't worry it's really hard to overwater rockwool in one go.

Firstly i cant beleive you took your wife to Amsterdam for a pot smoking honeymoon.
You dont need to worry about ph'ing the water as the the sprout isnt consuming nutes just water. If your going into soil just start them straight in jiffy pots not RW cubes or papertowels and wait up to 2 weeks for germination, keep the jiffys wet and warm until then. This way you dont handle the sprouting seed.

These ones that expand in water.
