Day 21: Stunted Growth?

White spots in pic are perlite dust. Leaves seem small though decent; I am awaiting a 600w HPS arrival that I’ll supplement with the 100w of LEDs currently above her. Orange splotch on right leaf occurred after I tore a piece off.994643E2-6E7F-4FD8-BF6D-6CB9275359B4.jpeg426CD0BC-1BD3-4CD7-868B-7F022D1E781E.png

Is that the only one stunted, or do you have a few that are stunted? Is this your first grow? If not, did you do something different. Too much water or too much nutrients can lock up the roots. I think your lighting is just fine. I have had some cuttings develop very poor root balls too. The only other thing that i know of is, i had a tiny pheno pop up in some mattycakes from akbb. But it really doesnt look like a mini plant.

First and sole grow. I did, however, plant it from the beginning in a 3 gal pot, which seems oversized at this stage. I hear that has an effect. Will eventually transplant to 15 gal grow bag. (I just often see much larger pictures of day 21 on the internet. Maybe some CFL’s might help at this point.)

In my experience starting them in a large pot seems to be better. I feel transplanting costs em a day or two of growth everytime. I think your choice of 3 gals is a good one. I think you have everything setup right. I bet it is just a stocky plant. 21 days, especially if your counting from germination of seed, can go by fast. You have two sets of true leaves with the next set on the way. I think its doing good in that department. It just might have really short internode length. Ill get some pics posted (hopefully soon) with the ages so you can see how things are working for me. Your right about cfls too, but depending on the strain it might be growing just likes its supposed to.

Looking at your picture, those perlite pieces look huge next to your plant so im not sure exactly how big it is. Here is a picture of AK Bean Brains Matty Cakes at day 25 the left stands about 3-1/2" vs right being 5-1/2". The left has been a slow grower but appears healthy and happy. I'll be using it to start my Gary Coleman line. The second pic is also an AK Bean Brain special NL5/NL5 at 18 days. If it is a small one, and even if it isn't, I'd get some more going so you have some side by side comparisons (and a bigger harvest). I hope nobody razzes me about my containers.20200224_111015.jpg20200224_110113.jpg

100 watts of LED - is that true watts? Or is that equivalency? How high above the plants are those LED's?
Yes it’s true watts, I never speak in other terms—advertised equivalency about 350. They are about a foot away because they are smaller lights (45, 15, 15, and 25)

Those look awesome. Good coloring and size.

Yeah, trying to get a 150g-1 lb yield, so will need a bigger pot and co2 bags. Appreciate the feedback!

Props for growing from bag seed. Everybody talks bad about bag seed. Its pretty much all true, but any seed has the potential to be a game changer. And pretty much all the big breeders talk about how they got there start with that first run of bag seed. I have had bad luck and suprisingly good luck from bag seeds. As to what kind of plant it would be, very hard telling, the original flower would probably be the best clue until it grows out. But definently an indica / indica dominant plant from what i can tell. But if it was from a bag it should be from a parent that produced, so that makes the size still a bit of a mystery.

Term “ bagseed “ is subjective... seeds from dispensary weed or actual street swag / brickweed.

Only way to “ narrow “ possibilities what it is .. is to wait for flowers and smell the terpy goodness / structure and a few other grow characteristics. Piney ? Fruity ? Citrus ? Earthy ? .... indy dom / hybrid leaf / sativa dom ? .... easier to grow it out and enjoy it regardless. Just enjoy the dank.

Some 20 years ago, a pal gave my a bag of not so great shake. At the bottom, a speckled seed. No idea of the lineage but I took that as a sign to read up on how to grow and clone this stuff. Turned out to be a potent sativa dominant strain. We knew it was sativa cause we were all pretty wired after a pipe full.

I was able to clone that girl and run 12 plants (6 in VEG and 6 in FLOWER) for over 5 years. Supplied my circle with lots of stinky bud. I will never assume that a random seed at the bottom is crap.

I was honestly shocked when I saw how well it sprouted. I got it from a very shady place, lol.
