I heard my first Beckham news here in the US, he is hurt or was hurt so he is going to miss an exhibition or missed an exhibition.
Soccer takes tons of skill. As for the adverts, America is all about the money. Trust me we hate the commercials too. American football isn't a bunch of fatties running around either, it is a game of skill, and requires immense teamwork and strategy...believe it or not. You have 24 different positions and each one is a little different. Any of you guys try and catch a ball coming at you at like 85 MPH while some 265 pound guy that can run the 40 yd in 4.5 seconds is coming right at ya. Ever try and throw a football 50+ yards acuurately while you have about 6 huge guys chasing you down? It also gets the stigmata over here of being played by stupid men. Ever see a pro playbook? A QB has about 5 seconds before the snap to read a defense and about 3 seconds after the snap to read the play and decide what to do...it is not easy. I mean there are so many variables. I agree with the rugby thing, but rugby players aren't 250+ running 40 yards in 4.6 seconds either. And actually Rugby is becoming more and more popular by the second, my town has a team and has for about 30 years. it's a local club and they travel over to England or Ireland once a year for tournaments...they usually lose but I hear it's great fun.
See the problem with Beckham going to LA is LA sports can be a bit soft and "hollywood" if you know what I'm getting at, no one outside of LA will care.
And remember not all us americans are the same just like you Europeans aren't all the same. I know we get the big ugly stupid american stigmata, it's not true. I must also say that American Football to me is some more than just a game. it was something my family used to do every Sunday, now the family is all gone so it takes me back to my childhood. Funny story about that...my pops died right before the Eagles played in the Super Bowl two days before in fact...all he asked about was what was going on in the news and how the team was looking...they lost but he never knew it. Our Football is like your football it's a religion a way of life.
