I have the same fan and I didn't need all that power for my cab so I bought that and have it set at exactly halfway. I've had people sitting in front of the cab and not even notice it while we're hangin out, I do have a carbon scrubber on it as well. If you wanna see my cab check my sig link.

What kind of filter do you have on it?
i mean the air thats being pushed out is loud.

No problem.. off the top of my head it's like 20" or something like that. It does work pretty well just make sure you replace the filter every few months or else it doesn't work as effectively. When you first turn it on you defintaly smell it a little bit but when flowering plants sit for 12 hours it gets pretty stinky in there.. I don't change the filter as often as I should though.
I've also thought about having my fan on a separate timer to turn on a few times for a couple minutes to try and control the smell more but I think i'm ok.. There was just about 20 cop cars outside my house for some guy with a gun across the street and they didn't smell anything lol.

^^ do you use activated carbon in your filter or just the Honeywell filter?

I just bought a fan speed controller "The speedster" for my 8" Valueline inline fan. I found out the speedster controller would cause the fan to be louder, a kind of growling sound so I searched the forums and saw others describing it too. The solution was to buy an Energy Saving Variac. I found one online for $50.
The fan is now silent. I have very precise control over the spped too. Its an amzing buy. I highly recommend it.

I have to agree that when you use the filter it will quit it down more than you can imagine.....I use a speed controller too and I also found that they have this insulated 6" ducting at HomeDepot and now my fan is like nothing!!!! its quiter than my clock LOL
