Welp, figured I'd tinker and see if hooking up some batteries would light up the x3 xmls and no go there, but what's fucked up is the one I had tried testing lot up after unsoldering the wires and testing the solder points.

So I did the same to the other two, and it didnt work. Still a beep from my multimeter.

Would any of you consider these perfectly fine to wire in and see what happens? Not sure what I did to get that one working.

This setting on the multimeter works for me...

I'd just hook them up. I haven't had a xml not work yet. Fried a few luxeons but every xml I ever bought still works.

Maybe a bad reflow? I've had more problems trying to figure out how to get a xml to light up with batteries or a multimeter than anything.

Thank you pos, I had been using the setting two notches to the right ((the led signal) to test them, unfortunately I tried the ohm setting and still had no light. Supe did hit me back and stated some blues and whites have this issue, so I think im gonna stick em in series and light em up when my drivers get here.

I use something similar to Supra's, I got it from a dollar store LED flashlight. I holds 3 AAA batteries and lights up stars for testing purposes.

I didn't even think of it until you said something Chron but I had this sitting in one of my drawers for an old camera I haven't used in years. It should work just fine and its re-chargeable.

So I got my XPE PRs in last night, fuckin TINY buggers! Figured out which side is the abode/cathode and tried my skills at reflowing on a luxeon, shouldn't be any issue! Chips are a state over and should arrive by Friday,

Just got a email letting me know my divers have finally been shipped as well, woop!

Only concerns I have are having enough PK3 and solder but I think I should slide by.

Also, noticed in one of positivity a recent pics that he's screwed the stars down- my xml2s are pretty loose with the adhesive right now (though they have jut been mounted the most recent and the luxeons seem to be snug after the pk has settled) should I be concerned with these coming lose from the heatsink after it being on for so long? I'd hate to have to drill/tap 36 more fucking holes.. I could use kapton but I'd like to keep it as clean as I can.. The clutter of stars and wires are already a mess being so close together.

I felt better after screwing mine down..lots better. All these nice components it's kind of a shame not to maximize the thermal interface.

Drilling tapping for me is as easy as screwing something in now...just takes a little practice. I literally blast a hole with the drill...follow it with a tap and done. Cutting oil is probably what makes it go so easy..

I got my copper stars and 670nm Crees in. I'll do a quick photo how to of the process if it goes well. The stovetop method is pretty easy and nicely controllable...just a few tricks to it

Yea buddy, without that oil I wouldn't be tapping, made the mistake of not using it at first and broke my bit. My father said a 4-40# is the smallest most ever tap, so if we can successfully tap those, we can do em all! (Got all my supplies from his supply [maint. Tech for 20+ some odd years]) he's also the one that wired/cut my progrow cases I was going to use till I fucked em up with shears. He may be able to clean em up but meh... Whatever. I may go through and do em... And I stand corrected: it'd be 38 holes o_O

Here's some perspective on those XPEs, you know what I'm talking bout pos. I think I'm just gonna use my iron (no stove top stuff, I have a gas stove) got my luxeon loose within a second.

So, I have a quick question about the cobs like the 3070: how do you clean them, or do you just plan on replacing it, since it seems pretty easy?

Those vero29 i mounted were my first tap and I used wd-40 and had no problems. Would it be a lot better to use a cutting oil?

Hey, one more question, does anyone know of a good source for the CXA 3070 bin AB in 3000K? Every place I looked (Newark, Digikey, etc.) was out for at least 2 months. The cobs look super easy to deal with- I have to put at least one in my garden :)

Welp, drivers are out for delivery today- getting prepared

How should I mount the potentiometer SAFELY. Will the connections on the bottom transfer current??

Can I use pk3 to mount it to the heatsink I cut for it to help dissipate the extra heat generated?

Got my drivers in the mail last night. Went ahead and rigged them all up on the power side, grounded and all.

These fuckers are monsters. Weigh quite a bit. I panned on having them mounted on the outside of the fans on the heatsink to help them cool down but after mounting my switch power Psu there (wasn't thinking) I can't.

Also, I messed up with the potentiometers- the c700A's have the screw (built in pots) and no wires coming out (looked at the data get for the wrong drivers (didnt type in HLG-185H, just 185) so I decided to mount them on the front of the panel for easy access to the dimmers. Hopefully they run cool enough or I'll figure somethin else out.
