Current trends

First of all i would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome in the introduction forum.
For those who missed it i am a lady grower, not new to growing, just new to this site. I was on overgrow WAY back in the day. I've been developing my own strain for over a decade. i'm an outdoor only grower. 5 plants per season. I keep everything very simple. I am self sufficient and produce seed when i gotta.

I've been having a good long look around the site and i gotta say some of the current trends i just don't get.

I don't get feminised seeds. in my eyes it's like buying a bunch of seeds that will more than likely turn hermie if you're not careful (and even if you are careful).

The other thing i don't get is Ruderalis, and why is autoflower is so important? i live in Canada, my season is short but i wouldn't think of diluting
any of my genetics with Ruderalis.

Finally, molasses and urine..... don't get it, not sure i want to.

Of course this is only my opinion, is this just a backwards way of thinking? I am here with an open mind hoping to spark interesting conversation.

...I'm with ya on the fem seeds, and the ruderalis....but, molasses has value to microbes, I use it when growing in soil. I'd never use urine, and if anyone does, they better dilute it. Have you given your stain a name?

i am also with you on the fem seeds.i do have some strains that i keep a genetic chain going with from femmed seed(ghs kings kush and ww)with good results.but have had hemie probs with other plants.i think its best to get reg seeds and weed out your males that way your females are more stable and wont hermie short of ecessive stress.with the femmed seeds you can be lulled into thinking you have all females then next thing you know your whole garden is seeded from some damn hermie.so ive concluded in my experience that mothers from femmed seed are fine but the process is kinda pointless and in the future ill be using reg seeds.

With feminised seeds you simply have a higher chance of females. There really isn't much to get. MOST people don't wanna deal with males. I can understand the unstable genetics part though.

Autoflowering plants are only going to get more trendy as the time from seed to harvest is only about 9 to 10 weeks. People want a quick turnaround. As indoor growers, our season has no end. 5 harvests per year sounds pretty good doesn't it?

Molasses...plants turn sugar into sucrose, and small organic molecules. Urine contains urea. Still no excuse for pissing on a plant in my opinion though. Hope I helped, and I'd also like to know more about the strain you developed.

Hi skunkberry you got your own strain growing over a decade impressive. Im new to growing starting to germ this weekend i got feminised seed(white widow) i heard they dont hermie much but still i dont like the fact that male parts can grow in between buds. Seen a grow from bag seed that went bad it had like 10 plants 4 hermied 2 died only 4 plants lived then in the last few weeks the best looking plant went hermie in the bud it would have polled the whole room only every thing got chopped early. Im going to get normal seeds next grow and try cloning from a good mother. What strain did you start off with any pics

I know what you mean. I am very stubborn in my ways but it is OK if everyone goes into different directions. Hopefully the road they take is a good one if not then that is also OK. As long is they share it here and we all learn from it. I am seeing the key phrase on you're post there - Open-Mind. Doesn't hurt I guess (well not as much - I hope)

Interesting observations. Cool you have your own strain, I have been working on my own strain for 8 years, I call it Blue Storm. The Blue is from by BB and Storm is my dog, a pitty and she makes me laugh, she smiles and I go into convulsions of laughter. What I have now is stable and is killer. It's a cross of BB, Freezland, Northern Lights and White shark.

Molasses
, I have tons of info on using it, but nothing that comes out and says it works. I have research papers and articles but most of the information is anecdotal and not supported by research. More work is being done on the value of using it. I do use it but at a low rate of 7 ml per gallon. (1/2 table spoon) I am 99% Organic in dirt.

Urine. Boy this one made me go WTF and I kept going. I kept seeing it come up so took a look and did my home work. This has been used for centuries, needs to be mixed at a rate of 5 to 1 minimal. I use it now when I water, when I fill my 45gal up I always have to pee so now I just let her go in the barrel, saves me a trip upstairs. Now me peeing in 45 gals is not a very good recommendation as the dilution rate is so high. I add about a cup, that's all I got to give even after a couple of beers. There is no research to support that it is effectave.

feminised seeds Where do I start, how about crap IMHO. I believe fem seeds is just another way that the big breeders are using to take control of the market and cash in. They do have a use, people who don't want to sex plants buy them.

Saves growing something your gona hack down, good for the everyday grower but useless if you breed, clone or re-gen. The plants can go herm but it tends to be late on in flower so isnt a problem, i've never seen a full blown herm, just a few horns just before harvest, easily picked out.

molasses and urine..... don't get it, not sure i want to.

Urine... cant see my self pissing on my girls tbh but i have used blackstrap molasses and it was awful for the soil, ph went well off and it took quite a few flushes to get it sorted, its sticky stuff, no substitute for good quality nutes imo.

I'd be a bit hesitant to say these things are trends, like lollypoping (my most hated teqnique) some people do it but the results will be disputed, i'd say topping & lst are the most popular training trends and the most common format for indoor growing is a good quality lighting, ventilation and grow medium with variations on the type of lighting from hps to led and medium soil, hydro etc.

Have you considered indoor growing, think how much quicker you could develop your strain, you could fly through the generations.

Kudos to all you indoor growers, i can't do what you guys do. With the lights and the nutes and all of your chambers it's all very intimidating. Im a very casual grower, 5 plants per season, outdoors under the sun with very minimum effort. I can't imagine 5 harvests a year, i dread 1 harvest a year. i hate manicuring :(

Like i said in my intro thread , it's a work in progress but i call it SB Skunkberries. unoriginal but the odor is just like a skunk walking thru a berry patch. i started with a few really good hybrid seeds i got in a trade years, i've never paid for seeds, after that first trade i just made my own until i was bogged down with bags of seed and sick of seedy weed.

Im breeding for cold hardiness, strength & vigor, oh and berry taste cuz the piney stuff makes me gag... It's done mid oct, id like to shave that by a month, grows to about 6' high, 3-4' wide. (for you indoor growers im told by a friend who uses one of my ladies in a SOG setup its 58 days , i have no idea if thats good or bad)

This is where im at, ive been using the bazillion seeds from the last cross for years:

((((shishkaberry x shishkaberry) x (blueberry x shishkaberry))x (shishkaberry x powerplant)) x bubblegum) x skunk

i haven't made any seeds in a few years but due to lower germ rates this year and lack of new genetics to breed to im going to F2's next season and see what happens, it should be exciting. I think i have 5 seeds of Dutch Treat x White Widow from years ago that i may try to germ but there so old by now they probably aren't viable. Im anxious for spring now and winter hasn't even started yet.

Fem seeds have never failed me

Molasses Seems legit But I don't use it

Pee Has Nutrients In it But this is dirty and their are more effective ways of feeding your plants

Keep Old crappy Rudy away from My Plants Autoflowering is the real garbage Not so much fem seeds IMO

woodsmaneh! your strain sounds super cool, and i think it's so sweet that you named it after your dog too. Im a huge dog fan, have 2 big beasts of my own keeping an eye on things.
I will admit that my plants get there share of urine. My dogs are male , my plants are big so they are easy targets. For the record tho i would never pee on my own plants.

when i think of molasses + dirt i think of mold and critters. I would rather put the molasses to good use in cookies.

Stoner1984, i haven't considered indoor growing because of the risk. i have thought of how fast i could fly thru the generations and i would be lying if i said it didn't excite me just a little bit. i do have a friend however that has just started his indoor growing endevour, he's the one who reffered me to this site. i plan to use and abuse his setup for a few seed projects. . He's growing and cloning the best lady i've seen from any of my crosses. He doesn't know it yet but she's gonna be my new seed mom. ;)

There is always risk, in Canada if you run 1 or 2 lights the cops look on it as a mortgage helper and really there not looking for you it does not make good press or get them funding. Now if you start selling stuff that's different they will look at you. If you keep an eye on the papers you get a feel for whats going to happen if you get caught, if it's a first time you will not do any time and likely have to make a donation to the woman's drug addition center $1000 to 500$ that's it.

I have always had dogs started with Doberman's for 24 years than my son brought a pitty home and we were hooked. My boy Chopper is 112 pounds (he's an Alaunt looks like a giant pit bull but he's not) and Stormy she's an Am Staff 65 pounds and them the little one who started it she's a pitty 45 pounds. My grand daughter spent her first 2 years with them. Great dogs.

Molasses is great for a number of things but not using to much is the key. If you have fire ants in the yard or garden mix 1 tsp with a gallon and spray where they are and by by they pick up and leave. I like it in home made beans.

Well I started old school and stopped for a few years, kids than my buddy got me back into it. I started with ebb and flow for 4 or 5 years and than wandered for a few years DWC, TF, airoponics and than decided I wanted simple. Ben there done that and for some it's right for other's not. I do have to say I got great stuff, and all I do is water.
