My bud smelled nice and fresh but after a couple of days of curing it smells like alfalfa hay. It doesn't look diseased but it doesn't smell like the ganj should.

What gives?

Hmmm, good question. I just cut one down on Sat. and it smelled really fruity at the time, but now, like you mention, it smells just like plant matter - even hay-like. However, if I break a nug apart, you can still smell the old odor, and it smells on your fingers too. I assume this is part of the natural curing process, but this is my first time, so what do I know.

yes unless you have a really funcky smell then its normal first day or 2 they smell like the plant then the chlorophyl and salts start breaking down and thats when they smell funny then after about 7-10 days depending on your method and density and so on they will smell normal again like buds and then at about 12-14 they will be primo.

Only start to cure once it is totally dry, like stem snapping dry. Then you can cure in jars. It will smell differently while drying as mentioned the natural processes still occur. Once you put it in jars (open daily for an hour to dry up over a week time). I move around the buds while opend to get air in there. You will notice it feeling moist. Once it is in the air for a few minutes, it crisps back up. And when it is cured, that jar smells great, nice and sweet. :peace:
