Crushed gravel/concrete as hydro medium?

Hey fellas, got another question for you. I have recently acquired a fifty site hydro system that came with everything but the medium. The buckets are 2 gallons and I am far from being able to spend the money on 100 gallons of hydroton.

I have heard about using gravel or crushed concrete as a medium. Anyone have thoughts or experience with this? Generally I would assume the concrete would throw off the PH (it has lime and stuff in it i think). How about gravel? Would it put out lots of weird minerals? Obviously I can wash what I'm using but I am thinking of long term decomposition.

Is there any other option for cheap cheap cheap medium that works well?

i am bumping this, hopefully some new eyes will see it.

Nope because there is acid in the concrete that will kill the plants. I know because I am a contractor, and whenever I work with the shit and have no gloves on my hands get sores from the acids. Crushed gravel (real rock) I don’t know.
