Crispy Plant

Hi Guys

I have read that flowering can cause discoloration on the lower regions of the plant, and would like some input on my case.

The attached, was a "fire and forget" grow, I simply threw a seed in a hole, and a few months later, this was the result.

The plant was in very good health, until it started to flower.

all my other plants are indoor , so not really that invested in this outdoor plant.- but would like to see it do better of course.

I'm giving her water (dechlorinated tap water ) as she shows signs of need, and once a month some fish emulsion mixed in with the water.

Please note the insides of the plant, its all brown and dying.

- The buds are looking alright though?

What could be the cause? The Fish emulsion not being enough, is what i'm going with. But it cant hurt to get some more opinions.

Thanks for the time.

Once a month feeding is far too little. You should be feeding anywhere from 1 to 3 times a week depending on what the plants tolerate. Brown dried up leaves would be normal IF you were nearing the end of flower but you are not. Pick those ones off and start feeding more often.

Basically they are starving to death right now. Haven’t worked with fish emulsion but I’ve had a lot of success with bat and bird guano‘s in my water.

I fed these plants two times their whole life.

1.2 grams per watt and very good quality.

What kind of dirt are you growing in?

Nice work. But I don’t see how fed twice in it’s life is possible to get that result, unless you’ve got an insanely rich medium you’re working with.

Every other watering is my go to for good results. That works out to twice a week for most strains.

This is where I dont understand why so many people have so many god damn nutrient issues. How often you have to water depends on strain as well as pot size. The bigger the pot, the less often you have to water and the more nutrients that will be available to your plants.

That was a 6 strain run, 2 of each, all autoflowers, all in 5 gallon pots. A couple were getting a touch low on nitrogen at the end but i dont smoke the leaves and it wasnt enough to worry me. The end result was just below top shelf (of course, autos...) except for the zkittles that was garbage.

It was a half n half mix of these. M3 is 30$ a bag but money well spent in my opinion.

This is my amendment. I game them each about 3 oz (weight) of amendment per dressing. Once at the start of flower and again 3-4 weeks later.

My future grows will be photos in just M3. Doing a trial run this summer and its going very well.

This one is very dark green but I think she will be fine.

Yeah, that plant is fried man. The problem is probably more a nutrient imbalance than anything else imo. Fish emulsion is really high in N but low in PK, so it's good in veg but actually hurts your plant in flowering. The burnt leaf tips are probably from excess N but you simultaneously have a P and K deficiency, and probably a lack of micros as well. Get a decent bloom nutrient and feed every other watering, or top dress with a good mix of compost and potting soil and water without additional nutes and you should be fine.

In low nutrient or inert mediums your method works best, and it's kind of the old school way of doing things. But these days a lot of people grow in super soils where the compost and additives break down over time, feeding the plants through their whole life cycle. I'm trying my own mix now actually with some autos because I'm sick of mixing nutes all the time.

I'm surprised you're getting such good results from the M3 actually. I tried it and thought it was overpriced garbage. I was using it alone, but it stopped feeding my plants after like 2 weeks. I got better results from FFOF. Used the M3 for two grows and said screw it, dumped the rest of the bag in my garden and never bought it again. Heard a bunch of folks with stories similar to mine too. Somehow you've figured it out though!

Dude a friend and I are both getting AMAZING results from M3. His plants have been vegging for 5 months and he has only top dressed them one time a month or two ago with some happy frog 5-5-5 dry amendment.

This is his 5x5 tent

All auto flowers? That explains feeding twice in their lifetime, they have a much shorter lifespan.

It depends on how you're growing as to how often you need to feed. Hydro/coco every watering. Promix some feed every other watering. Some people grow in water only soil blends and never feed anything. Lighting plays a role as well. Too many new growers with crappy lighting feeding their plants like they're growing under 2000 watts of HID.

The majority of issues people have is from overfeeding or an imbalanced feed. Just reading some of the mismatched nutrients and additives some use for their nutrient cocktail just makes one shake their head. Feeding cannabis and keeping it healthy is not hard. Yet people are tripping over each other for that next magic bottle of elixir to go with the other dozen bottles of magic potions that they think are going to take them to the promised land of huge buds. What usually happens is they screw up their plants and actually reduce their yield and harvest crispy fried nasty looking plants. Youtube is full of crappy growers with videos of crappy plants that many seem to think are just rockin it. It's as if many new growers have never seen a healthy plant.

"water only soil blends" are a pretty bold and vague statement. Thats what i grow in and i still add a little top dress dry amendment in flower. Ive got a 1000w double end HPS in my 5x5, the plants get hungry. But yeah i agree with you, soooooooo many bottles of snake oil and bags of pixy dust out there.....

I should have said living soils.

This was an interesting study using a few different soil blends if you haven't already seen it.
