I'm in the Michigan northwoods and have the same problem every year. Winter is very dry with the RH bouncing from
25-40%. As a result any plant material left out to dry naturally is soon a crispy critter. I tried adjusting the time spent out drying
so I'd catch it before it dried out. F**K! It was either too damp and mold-prone or too crispy. I decided to try re-hydrating some
of the crispy ozs. I'm sitting on.
I weighed out 28.0 grams of crispy critter, CC, on a large plate. I formed a wreath shape with a bare spot in the middle. Placed a
small 6 oz. bowl in the center with a few ounces of hot water. Placed the whole shebang in a big zippered plastic baggie and sealed
her up. 24 hours later I checked. The bud was perfect! Went in at 28.0, came out better at 28.6! Did the same with an even crispier
28.0 the next day. Came out perfect again at 28.8. Just for the hell of it I let that oz. re-hydrate another 24 hours. It felt the same as
24 hours earlier but weighed 29.8! Not only was I making my smoke more smokable, it bulked up to help the economy.
I've looked around and asked around to get feedback on my re-hydrating. I was warned not to try using fruit syrup or anything else sugary
(soda pop) instead of water. Those liquids may inject enough carbs to increase molding.
