CPU Fan Question

Alright guys so I know this isnt a thread for fucking useless problems like this, but I need to know to hook up my cpu fan in my box.

So the cpu fan has the b/r wires. Basic right? well I chopped off the end of one of my old ipod wall chargers and it has red and white.

Now common knowledge is red to red black to black, but with this white one, anybody know if its still black? (Red to Red, Black To White?)

Sounds like a stupid question but I don't need a fire starting in my box and burning my place down.

First off, please stop messing with electicity until you get a better understanding of it. You can hurt yourself or burn your place down. You need to check the specs on the fan, it is probably DC, but what wattage and amperage? It really matters. You can go to radio shack and get a correct wall adapter or you can get one that does multiple voltages. Bring the fan in and maybe you will be lucky enough to get a guy who knows what he is doing but that is becoming rarer and rarer at chain stores. Good luck!

I was going to say just hook it up and plug it in.. IF it pops and smokes.. unplug and reverse the wires :)

It is my understanding (from the good old days of Technic Lego) that if you reverse the connections on a motor, it simply spins the other way. But what berkman says is correct. Instead of using an old charger, try using a PSU for a PC. They have the right connections and simply plug and go. Saves doing any DIY work then =)

Just check the output on the transformer on the ipod charger itll say it in the very small print. What your looking for is output 12 volt. All cpu fans are 12 volt. If its the correct voltage u dont have to worry about wiring it wrong that only determines direction the fan spins, you wouldnt start a fire if its the correct output voltage.

Finally a real answer! But ya thats exactly what I did, matched the volts up AC/DC12V.

Now here's a trick question. What about 2 fans? Added some more lights for flowering so heat rose a bit. So if I wired the second fan into the charger as well, anyone see this causing any problems?

Nope. I seen up to 4 on one power supply! Just make sure ur not pulling more amps than the transformer is made to handle. They usually have the amperage near the volt output. Just add the two fans amps amd make sure its lower than the transformer on the charger and youll be fine!
