Couple questions about sexing your plants from regular seeds and growing a mother.

I recently ordered 10 Sannie's Jack Herer F7 seeds and eventually want to have nice stable mother out of the group. I grow in Hydro(RDWC) but I will most likely grow my mother in soil which sort of puts me in a predicament and here's why.

I only plan on starting 3 or 4 seeds to get one or a few females to choose a mother from and then keep the rest of the seeds for next summer or sell a few to make some bucks. I have to sex them to get out any males, so i could grow them out in soil and then when they are big enough throw them under 12/12 until they show their sex, pull out the males, and then throw the female I want as my mother back in the veg room under 24/0 lighting. If there are any other females I would then grow them out in soil in my bloom room which is one thing I really don't want to do.

My other option is growing the 3 or 4 in hydro, then after their ready throw them into the bloom room, sex them, and once I find the female I would have chose as the mother, clone off of her(a couple just to be sure) and throw those clones back into veg. and have one as my mother.

The problem I have with both is the stress of throwing the mother or the clones back into veg., I don't want to herm my mother and I don't want to kill the clones. What do you guys think? Thanks

Mike

3 or 4 would probably be enough but you never really know. they could all turn out to be male, or all female. I would start 5 or 6 to end up with 2 or 3 females

I would say the soil works best because once you know which is your females you can put it back to veg then clone all ya want
hmmm... I was thinking. If I did the Hydro one and just took clones from each plant and marked them before I threw the plants into bloom, I wouldn't really have to deal with any stress and after I sexed them, get rid of the male clones and make one of the female clones a mother. But with this i'm worried about germinating in hydro and rockwool, I've had really excellent success with bagseed in soil, but I'm inexperienced with hydro so if I only get one or two females and they happen to be the one or two that died out of the three or four seeds, I'll be PO'd..... I don't plan on any of them dying but I plan for this worse...

Idk, any other thoughts or suggestions?

hmmm, maybe I will go with 5, I have done 1 before and got lucky, i guess it depends on how risky i want to be. I really should be safe and do 5. But then again that goes against my hydro option because of more wasted nutes and bought distilled water on males.
