Couple of coco questions...

Didn't see a specific coco forum, so I'll post here.

Total coco newbie here. I just started 6 seeds in coco 6 days ago and 5 have sprouted with an average height of 1.5". They are babies right now, but I know coco has no nutrients in it.

So...

When should I add nutrients and at what strength?

Currently hand watering, should I treat coco somewhat like a peat based medium and let the top inch or so dry out before watering again?

pH suggestions?

As always feel free to throw in whatever knowledge you have from using coco. Much appreciated and +rep for anyone who helps out.

I hear the best thing for Coco coir is Monkey Juice by Advanced Nutrients. I myself have been looking into coco for my next grow. The recommended amount is on the back of any nutrient bottle. But you should start off only using about 1/2 strength and work your way up. With coir being more of a hydroponic medium I think the PH should be between 5.8-6.8. If your watering like soil treat it like soil. Water/feed your plants when they need water and feed nutes every other watering. You'll get the hang of it after a while. It helps by picking the pots up to see how heavy/light they are. Depending on your pot size people usually say if top 3'' dry then water. Just try diff ways see what makes ya more comfortable

Edit: Will you be making a journal? If so i'd like to subscribe to see how the coir goes!

Heres the journal for the harvest i'm on now.

My current grow is in coco...been active since 12-4-08. JDogg is correct about AN's Monkey Juice and that is exactly what I am using.

I water my plants just about everyday!! Coco doesnt hold much if any water for any amount of time. So far I have had awesome results and am getting ready to transplant into bigger grow bags.

I did mix in perlite with my coco @ approx 70% coco - 30% p'lite.

I watered plain ph'd water for the 1st week of growth in rapid rooters, then t'planted them into the coco and started nutes 3-4 days later @ 300ppm or 1/2 strength.

My variables are:
70% coco, 30% perlite
1 gal grow bags
AN's monkey juice grow and bloom a&b
Cal-Mag plus
Compost tea and micros
Temp 60 - 70 degrees (controlled)
Humidity 40-50%
PH - 5.8
400w MH veg, 400w HPS flower (cool tube)

Hope this helps :hump:
