You can veg with it but I think the color spectrum is a bit too blue for flowering. Most mbf bulbs are around the 4000k range. However, some swear by going the entire grow with MH which is in the blue spectrum. Maybe throw in some 2700k cfls for flower, but I can't say for sure what the results would be, but should be ok for veg anyway.

do you think i could get a hps bulb and put it in there? :spew::spew:

Wrong spectrum for flowering,and agree with wbw, no do not try to put a hps bulb in there. You're better off with a hps ballast. That way you can use one ballast to run a MH for veg and HPS for flower. Electric Digital ballast if you want one more efficient on electricity and output loss.
