Could somebody please breakdown the different periods for the stages of growth?

The showing of sex in veg is strain dependent. Most of my strains show sex at about week three to four. A couple don't show at all until forced to in flower. To put that in context, I've grown over three dozen strains in my indoor adventure.

Longer veg doesn't provide quicker flowering. That's strain dependent as well. I used to run a perpetual for quite some time where I was starting from seed/clone in 12/12. All plants will flower when the light cycle is proper.
Really what you growing man
nice 6 week old seedling

I think people get set into how they determine seeding to young plant.
Like I consider my buddy to let his go to long as a seedling. But he thinks I moved mine up to soon. Personally I think do what you think is best.
What do you mean "moved mine up"? To a bigger light?

When I pop seeds, I do so in my cloner tent. Once the seeds pop through the medium, I give them one more day, then they go into my 400W MH veg tent with the other veg plants. Just did this yesterday for two Sour Diesel seedlings. I still consider and treat them seedlings for a couple of weeks, but after that, they start getting fed at low doses, so I consider them veg at that point.

Here's my proof from my own grow. Showing sex 28 days from sprout.

What I'm getting at is that I don't think the stage definition is up for debate and I think it's an actual horticultural definition.
It is a horticultural definition I'm not arguing that. Do I let mine go passed what definition calls seedling 100 percent. All I ment was use the horticultural definition as a guide line for when to repot or move to stronger light.

Move up as in bigger pot. Stronger light.
I have mine under 13w CFL x2 then x4. From sprout till around week 2 then moved to my veg tent.

Oh and I let my seedlings sit in full sun for a few hours a day. Still inside that is

What I'm getting at is that I don't think the stage definition is up for debate and I think it's an actual horticultural definition.
The only thing I'm able to find in terms of the actual terminology and its use, is that it denotes young plants, or plants that have yet to be placed into their final grow space.

Even looking through an extension of PSU on seed and seedling biology, it refers to the plant as a seedling, up until the point it is planted outdoors.

So in general horticultural terms, it's still semi ambiguous, as they consider the plant a seedling until it's in its final growing space.. which doesnt exactly equate to our field, where you can up-pot several times before final containers, or put your seed directly into its first/final pot, or you can go weeks or months before putting plants in their final resting place.

If theres marijuana specific definitions or requirements to differentiate seedlings from general vegetative growth, it's likely just a generally accepted metric and not a definitive biological differential between "seedling" and non seedling

Ahhh, ok. I transplant to my final pot from my starter pot at the end of their third week in the veg tent. They then veg for another further five weeks before they go into flower for 10+. As I said before, my seedlings go under my big girl veg lamps after two days max from popping out of dirt (for clones, they go in the day I move them from cloner to dirt).

Thank you all for the information, I will respond to the posts after I can read in detail, but it seems even here there is no consensus on certain information!

Is there a minimum period from when the seed sprouts to keep it in s vegetation before it can be forced into floweeing?
Nope, but obviously, the plants will remain very small and the yield will be equally small. Works well if you cram in a whole bunch of small plants in a perpetual (I ran my operation like this for quite a while a few years back with a mixture of newly rooted clones and seeds).

There should be a few "12/12 from seed" threads here on RIU if you use the search function.

Here's a picture from my 12/12 from seed run. There are three batches of eight flowering plants here. Every three weeks, eight new ones went in, eight came out for harvest (usually I'd have to leave the harvest batch in an extra week or so depending on strain).

Grew in spray painted 2L Coke bottles in a myriad of mediums (hempy, hydroton, soil and peat). Each eight plants went into the eight bottle carriers that I borrowed from the side of a convenience store. Very convenient indeed.

What would be the approximate period to reach sexual maturity?
That depends on strain, phenotype and even your environment. Some plants might reach maturity as early as 4 weeks from when they have leaves and start photosynthesizing. Most plants in my experience take 6-8 weeks to reach maturity though, and some heavy sativa strains may even take longer.

Like was mentioned you can flip the plant to 12/12 lighting whenever you want really. The plant will just continue to grow and mature until it reaches the point it is able to flower.

This is a major reason I discourage people from counting flowering time from the 12/12 light switch. The plants don't instantly start to flower, they have to reach the point they are able to once their hormones reach the appropriate levels. Thus flowering starts once the plants start forming flowers, just like all the outdoor growers.

The plant is in the seedling stage for the first week or two. They are considered to be in vegetative growth once the first set of multi-fingered (3 or more fingers) leaves are on display. You can flip to the flowering schedule as early as you want, but they won't start flowering until they reach sexual maturity, which is usually at about the 4th week of vegetation. I personally keep mine in veg for 6-8 weeks so they have time to build a nice root ball and strong stems.
Got it,! So you normally don’t go beyond 6 weeks at veg?
Thanks!
