Could I start out with this?

This is a setup I built for growing cacti. It consists of a 10g aquarium and a home built hood with a 4 tube Quad PowerCompact bulb and ballast. It has a PC fan built in for cooling. The cacti seemed to grow great. Over one winter they were much too big to keep inside. I was thinking that this might work to get a couple plants started. Opinions?

I'd also like to point out that I have never grown before and am a bit nervous about it. This would probably go in an empty closet and once the plants were larger I would get them out of the aquarium. Not quite sure at this point. Maximum low key is the ticket for me.

I don't smoke heavily so I don't really need much.

OH and the bulb in the pic is a reef fish tank bulb. 96w I think. 2 blue(actinic?) and 2 white. I think they sell just the 4 tube white ones.

Also on the opposite side of the hood is an opening for exhaust. The fan is intake. The hood is pretty much sealed on so the exhaust side has quite a bit of airflow coming out.

I'm not sure about odor when growing so I'm not quite sure how it would be with just a couple plants. I do live alone and have space for this in a separate room. I suppose I could attach a carbon filter to the exhaust side with some home ducting if needed.

I have this set up I use from time to time.



They can grow into it for a few hours to a day they stay cool.

My set up is (4) 24" T-12's 20 watts each at 6500k it's a light blanket.

I also have some 2600ish k's (don't use but may add to my hps room for some side lights).
These thing may be old school but you can not f--- it up.



I veg up to 18" under these lights.

Thanks! I have a lot of reading to do before I can get started as well as sourcing some seeds but I'm hopeful. I'll post up some results if I get it off the ground.

if you can try to grow bag seed first. learn on the cheap seeds. then buy good seeds if you don't like what you have.

The more I read on this site the more I realize how large the plants are when you actually have good bud. Is it possible to grow smaller plants with nice buds? I'm not sure I want 4 foot plants in my home.

I just saw another post about smaller plants. I'm assuming I would have to buy those Low Ryder seeds or pure Indica seeds to get the low profile plants. If this is a correct assumption should I even bother with bag seeds?

I'm thinking I should still probably try the bag seeds first to see if I can make anything grow at all before plopping down over a hundred bucks for 10 seeds and failing miserably.

Research SOG or Sea of Green. It's a method of growing where you grow more small plants instead of a few big plants.

search for SOG, its basically forcing flowering earlier in a plants life so in the end you have lots of small plants instead of a few big plants. also if your spend 100$ for any kind of seeds yourgetting ripped off. Try www.nirvana-shop.com or the attitude seedbank im not sure about their URL i personally have had great response from nirvana all of my sheeds ship their customer support lady is exelent. but the seed bank you choise is a personal choise
