correct pot size for flood and drain

hi my question is regarding to the 1 gallon of pot size for every foot of plant growth , rule of thumb ( i hope we are on the same page here as most of us have herd this rule b4 ). so my Q is does this apply to flood and drain table set ups as well . i thought i was just for soil growing . id like to use my 4x4foot tray to grow large plants 4 to 5 footers . my tray is 6 inchs deep .i dont know how big of a pot i should use.do i need a deeper table? any thoughts ppl ?

That rule doesn't really apply to hydroponics. I've grown 5 footers in my ebb and grow that uses 2 gallon buckets. As long as the roots have someplace to grow to they will be happy.

sweet ya i figuerd , so i can use a 2 gallon pot on my flood table ? my table aint all that deep say maybe 6 inches . is that ok to only flood the bottom bit of the grow pot ?

As long as the roots reach the area you are flooding you should be OK but in a perfect world you'd want to flood as much of the bucket as possible....i use 6-8 inch pots in my flood and drain table.

This is totally off topic from the original thread, but I have a question that I am hoping that someone can help me with. I was wondering how small a pot i can use in a flood and drain table b4 it starts to hurt the size of the plants. I only have a small 2-4 table and I am trying to get maximun amount of plants?

Old post but I grow 4-foot-tall plants in 1 litre pots full of hydroton. You don't need big pots in hydro if you feed it timely and correctly.
