Jacktbr 12 g for first gun is a good option hard to miss a close range and with the right load I can assure you they won't being coming for more. On the other hand my 9mm is fun and cheap to shoot. 100 rounds for 10 bucks at wally world (12g can be cheap to shoot as well). Get some plus p ammo and lots of practice you can make due with a 9mm. Granted I prefer the .45 but I can't afford to shoot a lot w one as I am a student w limited funds. Now if my wife will let me keep my gun where I want I won't have to go get it when I need it. Hopefully she'll be a little more receptive when I get a CCL.

As for not having guns. I'll be dambed if I let my gov have guns and then tell me I can't. Soon they wouldn't be our gov, not that they represent my views anyhow.

Damn it. I went from liking guns, to not liking guns, to wanting a 9mm, and now I think I should really get a .45. I don't want to have to shoot more than once.
Check out the .40's.. shooting capacity of a 9mm with the stopping power of a .45.

Shotguns are the only way to protect a household. 12g or 10g prefered.

The idea of government is a joke. Educate people.. the more intelligent a population the better.

.40 for me=) I love mine as well as my 12g's... 9mm are nice for target practice or trying to shoot midgets..=) I wouldn't mind one just because it's expensive to shoot my .40

Quoted directly from Outgrow Big Bro:

Seed Planters,

So as a cannabis user for a long time and being from the bible belt, I have endured my share of shit from cops.

This is not the worst I have experienced, but it's up there.

Here is what happened to me yesterday.

I was pulled over for driving 42 in a 35 about 9:00 AM.
The officer took my license and insurance back to the car with him.

When he got back out of his car, he had his hand on his pistol and demanded that i exit the vehicle with my hands above my head.

I thought it was a little excessive, but apparently there was a warrant for unlawful carrying of a weapon. Which I did receive a few years ago for having a machete in my back seat.

Where I am from a machete is a tool. But apparently in Austin it's a weapon. Go figure.

Anyways, I have already been to jail and served my time for this weapons charge over two years ago.

So this had no affect on the officer's intention to arrest me, which he did.

When I got out of the car, I locked it and put the keys in my pocket.

I did not consent to a search, but the officer rifled through my pockets and fished out my keys. Then he proceeded to search through my car, much to my verbal objections.

Of course, I had nothing in the car, as I was leaving my probation office just before being pulled over. But the officer was able to locate a tiny glass pipe that had long been lost in my car. He slapped me with a $275 paraphernalia ticket.

When I got to jail I was booked in and allowed to make one phone call. This phone call had to be made before the officers explained my charges and options for release.

I was not allowed to make another call until after 9:00 PM.

I sat in jail until about 2:00 this morning, when I was released. I was told that I would receive time served on the charge, and that everything was now taken care of. That's the same thing I was told two years ago. So we will see how this plays out.

Personally, I feel raped by the system. Sure, one day in jail is no big deal, but I did have to explain to my job why I was out for the entire day, lose a day's pay and eat a bologna sandwich, when I had planned on enjoying some SXSW shows.

This is a total violation of my civil rights, but I don't expect to have the wrong righted. It's just the system that we are forced to live in. The wheels of justice seem to run me over every time.

So I am free to enjoy another day in the free world. I just thank God that the police state that I live in is not so bad, compared to .... Nazi Germany.

By the way, I don't want anyone to call APD and bitch. I just wanted to get this off my chest.

Good Night and Good Luck,

Keep in mind that in most states have any firearms in the home that you grow doubles or triples the sentence. After all, everyone that grows is a "criminal" and criminals only use guns to rob/rape/kill.

I personally have a number of guns in my house. A 12 gauge 18.5" barrel shotgun, first 3 rounds are 00 buckshot and the last 2 are slugs (get the runners.) I have a 1911 A1 chambered in .45 Colt (good enough for the guys on D-day, good enough for me) and I carry a 9mm.

I am licensed to carry but the most illegal thing I do is have an open container in the car.

As far as keeping the cops away, the biggest thing is going to be keeping your mouth shut, if you have told one friend, you have told too many. Also whatever you do, do not post pictures of your dumbass with your plants on fucking myspace. My best friend is a cop and they arrest soooooooooooooooooooooo many kids for stupid ass myspace and facebook pictures.

Whats a 9mm gonna do? Every wanna be gangster has a 9mm because 2pac said it.....You know you could go buy a 45 or even a 40s&w is better then a 9mm.

Not trying to piss you off but I would go buy another gun it would take 5 or more shots from a 9mm to drop someone.
Well buddy I've got fifteen in the clip and 1 in the chamber, If I can't get it done with that I'm gonna be in trouble with any gun!

FWIW, I still like the S&W J-frame .38's (before you start whining about the load, remember that most of these can chamber .357 too.) And I think I'd prefer a .40 over a 9mm. Although, like I said before, I think the only weapon I'd want to own myself would be a rifle.

i got a marlin 17mm rifle a month ago. Anyone looking into buying a rifle should check it out. I can shoot a ground hog in the head from a 100 yards and it has no recoil. It ran me like 475 bucks with the scope but it's def worth it, nicest gun i own fo sho

Wow, I just read most of this thread and many of you people seem to be living in a karmic cave! Do you really think that anything done out of fear is a step toward your freedom? And what are your goals anyhow? Do you think that shooting a kid that breaks into your house for some crack money is a better choice then giving him the fucking dvd player? Would that make your insecure ass feel like your a man? Does shooting at shit make you feel strong and powerful?
Listen, I'm not saying shit doesn't get scary sometimes but reverting to violence never makes winners there is just two losers instead of one and opportunity for change and heeling is wasted.
I don't know your guy's age and maybe some of this uncontrolled testosterone is related to youth but let me tell you, especially since we are in the pot culture here, you guys have not learned a lot from all the weed you have been smoking if your first thought at the sight of distress id to get the shoot gun out!

Now, this should make for a little counter weight, cause remember, all things are whole to themselves, lol!

Party on people!

When you are actually put in the position:

"It is me or them."

What will you choose?

Not at all places are so pleasant and happy.. some people will come into a house expecting to shoot the occupants. Get real.

If someone comes into my home and they hear the 10g load and they don't leave then I know they are armed also. I, for one, don't have a problem to shoot in self-defense.

"self-defense" means that you are coming from a place of lack/ weakness brother. The notion that anything 'real' could be taken away from a son of 'all' is absurd. It is the unwillingness to let go or the need to hold on that triggers a fear response. It is a very biologic response, but can be overcome with practice/meditation. The question is: Who are we?

I know exactly what you are saying brother. I meditate often.. but for some reason I still have attachment to this life given to me. Attachment to material I have let go.

The thing is, if someone comes into your home and they want what you've got and they will kill you for it.. what will you do? Lay down and die? Out here people are get killed for $50.

What will they do if they come in and want my plants, my PC, my money, and anything else?

It isn't my property I'm protecting in my house, it is my life. The property is what they are after my life is just a liability to them.

Well said Enigma, I'm right there with you! The problem with these conversations is that they rely on 'what if' scenarios. Reality is only here and now, the past is nothing more then moments of 'here and now' not let go off. It's 'here and now', always has been, always will be, the only truth!
Would I lay down and die? I really don't k now what I would do but I certainly wouldn't get a gun if my intentions were a peaceful outcome.
Brother, if we tried to control all the possibilities of physical harm before they occurred, we would never leave the bed. We need to deal with things in the moment, the only sane option!

"What will they do if they come in and want my plants, my PC, my money, and anything else?"
Yep, what will they do? Well, you are going to have to ask them! Do you know where I'm going with this?

"It isn't my property I'm protecting in my house, it is my life. The property is what they are after my life is just a liability to them."
You life needs no protection brother, your life is all that there ever was and if you are honest you will have to admit that there is not one moment in which you have not been! So in reality you have always been and are eternal.
