Need to get a cooltube for my 250 watt hps.

Will any cooltube fit it or are there 250 specific tubes?

Can I fit extractor to it , pulling air through it and out of the room?
I've some pics on here where people have ducting going from cool tube out both sides of grow space.

All info appreciated , cheers

yeah extraction works fine unless your adding CO2. I use a bathroom fan rigged up to mine and it works great. I have a little space and it's only 3-6 degrees over ambient temp.

You can make your own cool tube quite cheap, using a candle shade that uses hurricane glass, like the one in the link below.

That, and some ducting, and possibly an inline fan would be perfect, and is what I am going to use.

The Fan is a 12V 5A (60W), and I am going to buy a few of them and run them off of a computer power supply.

I could probably built a cooltube replica, using all this, for $60 total, that includes a piece of aluminum sheet metal to act as a reflector, and also moves more air than most premade ones.

Candle Shade $10

Inline Fan $25

Ducting, Flanges, Adapters, Sheet Metal, $20 at most.

Can Cooltubes be used as a primary exhaust?
They can double as both aircooled exhaust and exhaust for temp/humidity during dark periods?

As far as I know, cooltube "systems" are sealed, as in, air comes in from the outside, through ducting, into the glass tube and around the bulb, then out through an exhaust carrying away the heated air. It is never open to the room/closet/cabinet. That way it the bulb never heats up the room/closet/cabinet.

So, no, it can't double as a room exhaust.

Now, a vented hood is something totally different, they aren't sealed, and could act as a backup exhaust.

I was thinking of using a cooltube in a vertical position for a stadium-type setup, I was a bit put out at threading an exhaust tube right throough the center of prime growing area. Leaving one end open to pull the grow room air to cool seemed like a solution. Will the cooltube really output tons of xtra heat in a vertical position?

Now why would you try to make a cool tube for $60 when they have some on ebay or $60[5"] and 6" for $80?

Firstly, I like to make as much as possible on my own, that way, if it breaks, I know how to fix it. Secondly, I have yet to find a complete cooltube system for less than $100, that includes the glass tube, reflector, exhaust fan, ducting, and the rest of the hardware needed.
