Cooling off my box

I posted about this in the newbie forum but feel this might be a more appropriate setting, so don't stone me (or maybe do)

Thanks for your time and advice.

My Box is roughly 4x7 feet and 7 feet tall. 28 Square foot. 196 Cubic feet.

I have one inline fan that exhaust 438 CFM out of the top of my box

I'm having an issue with keeping my box cool enough for 2 1000w lights (one HPS one MH)

Even with just the one 1000w HPS I was running a bit hot, but keen humidity ranges. I've now set another 1000w MH in my box and had the temperature start to soar, hit ~90 degrees F, needless to say I unplugged the 1000w HPS until I can remedy my temp issue.

From what I've read online I ought to have passive air intakes roughly 2x the size of my exhaust fan area, so I'll be making two 6" holes and covering them in screen (the kind you would have on a screen door or window)

I'll also be moving my exhaust inline fan to be directly in line with my two hoods.

currently my inline fan is at a damn near 45 degree angle from my lights.

so hood1>duct>hood2>duct>6"inline fan>ducting to the next room since I'll be drawing my intake from my box room.

Also planning to straighten and shorten my ducting to the next room as much as possible.

What do you guys think, will this tame the temps?

Thanks again.

2x the surface area not just twice the size. It makes a difference.....3.14*r[squared]. Then also compensate for the amount of blockage from the screening and increase the size accordingly. Then you should be set and can recommend to other people, how terrible the math is at times :peace:

Then you can come back to this question.

2 1000w on a 440 cfm fan .............what is your intake temps

the only way u are going to lower those temps
1 lower your intake temps using AC to cool the room where the intake air comes from
2 increase the size of the fan
3 move to a powered intake ...............my set up
4 change out the 1000w for 600w or go for LED

u will need to do at least 2 of those if not the first 3 things ...........the 4th one will work with a powered intake or just changing to LED and use the fan system u have

and passive air u need a 12 inch intake it is double the size of the ducting not just 2 holes to add up to 12 inches but a 12 inch hole

Thanks for the advice guys,

Also to answer your question justugh, my intake is 70ish day time and 60 ish night time.

Figure with winter coming i keep the door cracked in my room and can skip the AC action til the summer.

You're also saying a need a larger fan even though I am turning over my room's air 2 times a minute? Seems to me the passive intake from that much negative pressure should be enough long as i can keep my ambient draw room temperature low. Is this proper reasoning? Just wanted to clarify.

also thanks for the clarity on the intake hole sizes :)

Thanks again.

Yes. bigger exhaust and add an intake fan. If air is hot outside get an ac unit.

Now about that nonny...... I recommend cotton panties. They breathe better than the silk you be rockin. :)
