i have a 20 x 10 x 7.5 space im trying to bring from 85-88 to 75 degrees. i have 5kw aircooled lights and a 12000btu portable ac. i would get a minisplit but its out of my price range at the moment (only want to buy a quality one) and im not trying to have it running outside in the winter for neighbors to see. i have an 8" s-line vortex for exhaust but it seems like its sucking up all the cold air from the a/c. my question is should i add another 8" to suck more air out should i buy another a/c? is there a way i should time the vent/ac being on and off? i could have 2 6" vortex pushing cold air from the attic into the room but im afraid of it creating positive pressure in the room. any help is appreciated thank you

Couldn't you passively pull cold air fron the attic?

yes i use air cooled hoods and as i said i could pull cold air from the attic but im afraid it will cause posititve pressure lettting smell escape so if i added 2 6" fans to bring air inside the room id also have to add a second 8" exhaust with a second 8" filter and even then idk if the 8" will suck all of the cold iar out before it has a chance to cool the room unless there are some recommended on/off exhaust times ?

As long as the total exhaust is more than the intake you will have negative pressure.
I dont see how adding a 12k btu ac is $500 8" fan $175 and carbon filter $125 and 2 6" fans $100 each that much cheaper than getting a 24k mr cool diy mini split for $1400 I know you can get an LG for the same price.
i would be adding just the 12k a/c or fans not both. as i said i dont want my neighbors hearing i have an a/c on, isnt it loud? also i figured i would need a 2 zone so a wall mount is on each side of the room so my exhaust vent doesnt immediately suck up the cold air

If you add the mini split you will not exhaust the air out. Just seal the room and scrub the air otherwise you are throwing money in cooling away. I cant hear my minisplit 10' away and no smell goes out the compressor it will sit outside and the head unit will sit on the wall the refrigerant lines run to the compressor. I just have 1 zone and my room is 14x16x8
damn it bro you are convincing me right now lol but i have to exhaust at some point to pull fresh air in the room you dont think i should even keep the exhaust on low? and you have the 24k one? you think the 24k is able to bring my room down atleast 10 degrees?

no close the room scrub the air with the carbon scrubber and add co2 hell timed at first then get a controller
I have done it this way before and just ran the co2 8 or 9 hours out of the 12

Your room is 2250 cfm an 8 inch vortex is about 700-800 cfm. This means when it runs you will change your air out in 3 mins. You have two options you can wire in an increment timer to come on and off at a certain time. You would have to sit and see how long it takes the room to heat up first. Lets say it takes 15 mins to rise 10 degrees to 88. so you set your timer every 15 mins to come on for 5 mins that will exhaust all the air in the room 1,8 times. This should lower the temp. Set your ac to a 78 so that if it doesnt do the trick it will provide supplemental cooling. Keep the fan at the top of the room in a corner and put the a/c diagonal from it. Have a passive intake at floor level in another corner from a/c but not same corner as the exhaust. If the passive air is 78 degrees or lower you will hardly have to worry about the a/c coming on. This will not only help because you are giving fresh air every 15 mins but also save you money on power bill. Hope this helps.
hi thanks for your response.. in theory that sounds good except ive tried the timer on the fan, ive tried exhaust on full blast and ive tried bringing in cold air from the attic with a 6" vortrex, none of these worked which is why im getting the a/c. even my 12k portable a/c only brings 1/3 of the room down 5 degrees. my portable ac is a piece of shit though
