Cook soil

Hey this is my second summer growing, and I’m trying to see do I have to cook my soil or can I just add perlite to my soil and plant my plants? I’m mixing fox farms and roots organic with cow manure and some great white shark powder for the roots. Oh and I have peat moss from last year so I’m adding more perlite for that.

You will be fine just mixing those items, the only thing is you dont want to use fresh cow manure it needs to be composted first. I use a very similar mix to yours FFOF, sometimes FFHF too, perlite, and Malibu Bus compost which is basically composted cow manure.

Hello!! Thank you man, yes my manure is a compost, how do you break that thick shit down? Lol I had a problem with it last year and had hard balls of it in my soil last year and I feel that is the reason my soil had a bad air problem.

You just gotta dig in there and break it up with your hands. The stuff I get is pretty broken down but there are some larger chunks and rocks i just mix it all up in a plastic tote and dig thru it with my hands and mix it really good and pull out anything bugger than a marble. You could also use an old window screen and sieve it thru that first to make sure its all broken down fine.

I mix 2 parts FFOF, 1 part Bu's, 1 part perlite and that seems to give me good drainage. Ive also done 1 part of each which gives more perlite to the mix.

One thing to note is I am growing indoors in pots not sure if you are in pots or in the ground.

Curiosity....why not fresh cow manure ? I heard chicken manure is Nitrogen potent and should be used sparingly; I have put fresh cow shit in my soil in the past.....have not noticed an issue but maybe it’s what I couldn’t see.

I am definitely not an expert on the matter. I thought all manure needed to be composted and broken down otherwise it was too hot?

I think your right....the manure un-composted is most likely too high in something
