Consistently getting purple stems, low yield

In my current setup, my 2x4 and 4x4 are connected by ducting with an exhaust fan in the 2x4. So the fan is pulling air out of the 4x4 through the 2x4 and out into the room. I also have an inline fan going into each tent.

That was another concern I had: heat. How much would a 600w HPS raise the temps? Is it something I can leave alone while I’m at work all day?

Return it asap and try to sell the ones you have your better off just buying 1 good light vs having 2 shitty ones that you have to swap for hps at flower. If you have experience with hps I would say go for that but if you have never grown with hps just stick to led it's the future you will be better off if you learn to use led now. I recommend a hlg 300w quantum board kit you can use the led you have now with it if you can't sell them.

a ph of 5.7 in coco/perlite is too low, you want to be around 6.1, at 5.7 you're on the very low range for phosphorous.
6.1 or 6.2 puts you firmly in the safe range for all the important nutes.

just my personal opinion, if you're using coco/perlite, step away from the smart pots, and look into hempy buckets. i started with coco in smart pots, made the move, and would never go back

I use a 600 watt HPS&MH setup and a 6” in-line fan sucking air out from the tent through the light hood and I keep my temps at 71-75 with lights on and off I have a window unit the room so after about 5 weeks of flower I turn it on at night to drop temps to 70 ish sometimes hitting 69 degrees but for the most part they stay in the 70’s and I’m in a 3 x 3 so u shouldn’t be no higher than that another thing I run my lights at night to avoid the hottest part of the day .. U might wanna try that out next time run your lights at night .. Good luck and happy growing.. that’s a pic of current temps with lights on

The weaker lights would explain your smaller yields..plants can only do so much with the energy they are given:) The lights you have will work in veg just fine..if your budget isn't too tight..then you should look into quality led lights and or cob led's. Much more efficient in energy use and deliverable light in the right spectrum. Hps will get you great results, but you have to monitor and manage the heat they give off..plus alot of wasted energy, in both heat and spectrums of light it gives off (too much green and yellow), that the plant doesn't much care for. But in the end..just add more light! You will be rewarded come harvest time! :)

Heat's always a concern with HPS, I used them for years, but recently switched to LED's and haven't looked back. Saves on cooling and uses less wattage but don't buy them ready made because it'll cost you 2-3 times as much and they're really not hard to make once you get the right parts sized for your needs.

Look at some of the more recent threads about CobKits, that guy can set you up with what you need at a good price, just message him with what you want and your budget, like the equivalent of a 600w HPS, and he'll be able to tell you the best COBs, heat sinks and driver. That way you won't have to worry about the heat, which can be a real problem if it gets out of control

I checked out some nutrient uptake pH charts after reading this and it definitely looks like you’re right. Crazy (and frustrating) how different nutrients uptake optimally at different pH’s. But in flower phosphorus is a key factor so I’ll try upping the pH a bit. Thanks!
