Considering replacing my 1000 watt HPS with Gavitas. Thoughts?

I have the proof, gavita pro 1000 is a great light. On my second grow which is currently sitting at day 35 of flower. They have a lovely even spread of light for a small hood. The first run i had the height of the light adjustable, this run it has been fixed on the roof from the start. Growing on 750 watt and turned up to 1150 watt for flower. First run pulled just over 22 dry oz, i think there may be more this time around. Well worth the $550 gamble!! A few pics

Well for those of you interested Gavita does make remote ballast's with the standard connection so you can use it with any hood so why go and modify it and ruin your warranty if you don't have to ?

I'm thinking a Gavita's 1k remote ballast paired to the OG hood and then its a choice between the bulbs from Gavita's or try out the OG company bulb (GrowLite).

I keep them about 4'-5' feet from my tops, I have personally never burnt my plants with them but I'm not willing to take that chance. Our room with the gavitas is about 30'x20' and has 12' ceilings, we keep it cool with a few wall mounted oscillating fans and a nice AC/dehumidifier and for shits and giggles we run a round industrial floor fan bouncing air off the walls, not directly on the plants. As far as yield goes I can only speak for the strains that we run and they are all from seed and purchased through attitude seedbank. On Indica dominant strains the running average is roughly 3-4 ozs. Sativa dominants a little over 5 ozs. As far as one gavita goes, I bought my dad a gavita 1000 DE about 3 months ago and he ran 12 plants under it and I know he is going to average 3 ozs per plant. That's a guy who has never grown in his life, given he was set up with good strains. If you would like to see some plant pics, I can see what I can do for you.
If I may ask, what are you pulling per square foot, dry/cured?

2013-03-31_10-10-06_876.jpgWelp Simon Ill be honest when I say I wouldnt even know how to figure that out peraure foot? But I can tell you that depending on the strain we are averaging between 3-6 ozs per plant, dried and cured. These plants are no monsters either, cloned, thrown in veg for 6-8 weeks then thrown over to flower. I guess I look at it like this, with cannibis no matter what you say or tell people they rarely listen, they always do there own thing and ask questions after they fail. For example we know a hand full of growers we do business with that see our set-up, cant believe the quality and results, purchase every shred of cured bud we push out, yet every last one of them still consistantly does experimental dumb shit with there ladys. But if you have any more questions I would be more than happy to chat anytime, 2013-04-03_14-42-55_983.jpg

Im looking to move into a brand new grow warehouse and am putting in place some serious lighting... (24 1000w's and 24 600w) and it's all new equipment. Having found this thread it looks like these Gavita's are cheaper than purchasing new ballasts (phantom), hoods (Raptor & Radiant) and bulbs (Digilux). Would anyone seriously consider moving away from "traditonal" grow methods and this equipment to run Gravita?

The spend on this equipment is an amount I would very much like to get my money's worth from.

Based on the design, it looks like I wouldn't have to do anything but cool and exhaust the room which means no need for air cooled hoods and ducting.

Honest opnions and reliable informaiton to back those opinions up is much appreciated!

Thanks!!

they are great lights. They put some thought into lighting and made a couple improvements for those who dont need vented hoods with glass. They are not a leap forward in technology by any means nor will they give you a noticeable increase in any way over a new 1000 watt hps with a good bulb. Good lights and good company. Disclaimer: my friend works for gavita.

Nice pic man. Did you use the same light for the entire grow? How big is your room and how many plants per light in your set up?

I know this is old as hell, but I have a off brand DE fixture . I can control temps n my room with the 1000w DE at 30inches from canopy, by question is should I take the aircooled HPS single ended fixture out and use the 1000w DE instead. Will this increase yield?
Thanks
