Confused on Setup

First post, so i have a very big area to start my first grow. Its maybe a 12x10 room with a closet. The room has two windows, its poorly insulated so going to start gathering supplies soon and start when it warms up. Ok so my question is do i need a grow "box" or can i jus use the whole room. Im shooting more twoards cfl's and only 3-5 plants at first. But i dont know whether to build a box off of the closet, or just set up in the middle of the room. Figured in the closet i can put reflective material up to help lumens bounce and whatnot and ventilation may be easier. Seeing alot of box/tent/stealth grows nothing much out in the open unless its HPS or Mh lights. thanks guys, so much information on here.

how big is the closet? closet's make very good small grow "rooms" if you would.. i grow in a medium/small sized closet, maybe three feet wide, two and a half deep, and like six or so high, and i don't have anykind of box or anything in it, just use it as is.. i only grow three plants in it, under a 250 hps and a four bulb t5 and a couple of cfl's on the sides, and its been working great for a few grows..
i would say just go with what you have for the moment.. remember the motto keep it simple, stupid... sometimes when we overcomplicate things, we tend to run into more problems.. atleast i have noticed that i do, lol..

closet is bout 4-5 ft wide n id say 3 ft deep thanks the advice ill start in there and see how it goes

thats a nice size closet space.. you could always make some kind of partitition board/wall out of a few two by fours and sheet rock and divide the closet into two smaller areas and really set up a nice grow area with one being dedicated to mothers/clones, and the other one for flowering only.. but if you were to go this route, you would have to be sure to make sure that each one were light proof from each other..
or you could always just use it as one space and forget about having two seperate areas, although if i had a lil more room i would love to have the two seperate areas for perpetual grows, but i like a lot of people, am limited by money and space issues..

For my first one i think im going to try some feminized blue mystic, and since its my first i time think ill just try to get them to survive til harvest lol than figure out the perpetual like all year flow of bud. Splitting it sounds good but ima try and stay basic keep the lights close.

1 question if ya could help me wit since ur hangin around, are nutes a must? like other than in the soil i mean like the bud blood and whatever, been doing alot of reading but nutes, and topping/fimmin are where im still in the dark.

yes nutes r a must if u want nice buds.. and advanced techniques such as fimming et r not necessary..

my space is about same size ,top haft is 5ft high lower is 4ft. this is first so top is veg, till sunday. 12/12 but what side of coin, light in day or light nite ? useing cfls so heat at night could keep temp,at about 68-70 at very best. but can keep light out better if no lite at nite. 6.am on 6pm off.

thanks, will def read all i can on nutes tonight, i read that seemorebuds book, didnt say much bout nutes, so wasnt sure if it was necessary. and can anyone direct me to like a topping guide, jus want to find out more about it, searched and cant find one. thanks for the answers so far guys been readin for like a month on here every day and just started askin questions

I wouldn't worry to much about all that fimming toping and such for now .when i first started iwas getting confused with all the information so i finally decided to just get started ! dont' worry about all the information at first yu can allways make improvements later
Remember its a WEED and it grows like a weed
I would just start by fixing up room use a cfl to start and decied wether dirt or hydro and get started you can add exaust and fancy things later
Dont for get to enjoy the experiance
