Configurations for a 2x2

Hey Rollitup,

So I'm in the process of researching and designing a light to best fit in my small 2x2 area. I've so far settled on 4 CLU048 1212's @3500k on a HLG-120H-C1050B using passive pin heatsinks.

I'm desigining some layouts at the moment and so far this one seems to be the best one of the lot minus the fact I'll need to use over 3m of aluminium angle.

Does anyone else here know of any good configurations for such a small space with less aluminium preferably under 3m?

I'm building a 2x2x48 and that's the exact setup I chose. I'm going 18 x 18 on the light though but close enough. Cheers!

The pin sinks will create their own updraft. In a room with a good strong fan you wouldn't notice it, but it's there. This updraft process is helped by creating as little obstruction around the sinks as possible. Like your typical aluminum angle frame everyone's building. A solid plate will really put a dent in the pin sinks' ability to draft cooler air. You should have a fan blowing air around anyway, but it's still something to consider.

If you want to save on aluminum, don't cut two sticks to support the driver. Move the driver off the light frame. Mount it vertically, outside of the grow area if that's convenient. The more airflow you can get around the driver the better. The driver's ability to shed heat is reduced when it's bolted down to a flat surface. Try to support it so that air can move across all sides.

That's what I'm more leaning towards doing just mounting it outside the tent. Will probably be able to create a more flush looking system that way as well. Won't have to open the tent to dim if I do it right.
