Computer problem. Help + reps!

Dude , my screen doesn't even turn on now, tested it and it does workon another cpu.
Not sure what is going on now.

HD works
New graphics card works

What else could cause this?

Most likely a bad MoBo. What make and how old? What processor do you have? You could go to TigerDirect for a new MoBo and use the same processor and memory chips. But MoBo's are pretty much processor specific.

It could be anything on it. A bad connection at the video plug, for instance. Have you checked the juice in the CMOS battery? It COULD be dead, especially if it's an older comp.

Mobo is a Intel d975xbx2 and chip is a pentium core 2 quad,
I built the cpu in mid 08, spent a fortune on it.

It was working fine 7-8 weeks ago, then it wasn't used until today, does that not sound strange?

Peace

Very. Did the tower get bumped or dropped? Could the BIOS chip have been shorted some how? I'm at a loss here too.

If the fans come on (the tower whirs) and if you can hear the HD spin (Take the side off and listen to or feel the HD) then most likely, everything is ok and you just ain't getting a video signal to the monitor. Check the monitor cord, then I'd check the connection at the video out on the tower/MoBo. You might have tugged the cord, or twisted it in some small way. Most all MoBo's are made in either Taiwan or China, mass produced, and the solder connections aren't really top notch.

I did get a few error messages on boot up saying something about the CMOS battery, And also something about the time and date could not be saved, or remembered , or somthing like that.

Is this battery essential for the cpu to work?

Yes, all fans spin inc heatsink ones, and hd spins too.

Tug on what cord and where is the vid out, i did just buy another graphics card and still nothing, i have also tried all three pci-e ports on the board.

Replace the CMOS battery. BIOS is the Basic Input/Output System, and the cmos controls the computers internal clockspeed. Yes, It's integral.
But that is wierd. I almost NEVER see a dead cmos battery, the drain on them is almost non existent. It could have been an old battery when it was installed tho.............

I had an OCZ power supply that killed my motherboard. Check your motherboard for bulging capacitors. You can fix them by soldering new ones in.

Mine I just restarted it and it never booted back up! It was an old AM2 socket though. Now I got an i5 2500k 3.3 GHz going to repair my other board and setup a server with it

I could be, but extremely remote, uness dud over-clocked everything an one of them fried from heat. Thats really rare tho..........

RAM will die for no reason at all. Thats why it's so cheap now. The last 2 times I built a computer both times the RAM was dead on arrival with errors.

But dead RAM wouldn't make the computer not turn on at all.

Where did High Time go?? Hope to Radio Shack. I wanna see this thing fixed!!! RIU Tech Support!!! Nusky, you run Windows?

Thats TWICE in over 25 years. I'd have bet anything but that, however, it's best to eliminate the easiest to eliminate. Glad I could help..

yea windows 7 right now, thinking about going back to Debian Linux but I have no disc drive cause my new computer doesn't have IDE only SATA1/2/3

Had to install windows through USB stick, can't do that with linux without having a linux OS already installed

You can run it (and install it ) from a USB flash drive. My laptop doesn't even have an os installed onboard. I have the OS on a flash drive. No flash drive, no getting into the comp. Your BIOS has to support it, but I'd bet that intel would if you habe either pheonix or AMIBIOS. No need for encrpytion that way. Comp wont boot if the OS isnt there. HE HE HE!! Fucked the cops up, I told the it was one in for repair, so they left it.
