Trust me, you won't get away with this in hydroton if you intend doing it in any form of hydroponics. I have tried as ebb and flow and it doesn't work. I suspect it's just as you can't get all the macro/micro nutes at the correct levels. You need soil as a buffer.

Yes. All of this is great for excellent soil. If you're doing some hydro / pumping who knows. I really encourage anyone too look at soil. Simpler, better, cheaper.

That would be a whole different thread Rrog! Personally, I disagree but see advantages and disadvantages in both (and currently do both in different situations). Bit like comparing Apples and Oranges.

I would take either the apple or the orange, whichever was grown naturally

I would take the largest. Many would take the cheapest or easiest
