i am a complete noob at growing weed. i currently have only one plant under 32w 6500k light bulb. it is under the light 18/6. the light is about three inches from the plant. my plant is in a 5 gallon bucket. i keep the miracle grow potting soil moist. is there anything i should change. thanks

Take how much you think you have to water it then cut it in half :D.. jk. Depending on how big the plant is in that bucket, it could go a week without having to water. Good rule of thumb is stick your finger 2" down into the soil and ifs its dry its time to water.

I used to use miracle grow, it will burn your plants when they start to flower. You'll also need a lot more light, most in the 2700k range to flower if you're using cfls all the way through. I'd recommend Fox Farms Ocean Forest Soil and getting at least two 105w (actual wattage not incandescent equiv) clfs. That is the largest bulb in the states that will fit in a standard edison socket, which is what I'm assuming you're using. If I had to guess you're plant is stretching to reach the light.

If you keep going with your current set up you will be very unhappy with your end results. As the guy above me said - this place is a wealth of information, use the search function to do some research man. If you're only growing one stick with the cfls. If not look at High Pressure Sodium, Ceramic Halide, or LED lighting. It can definitely be done but it is harder to grow more than autoflowering plants with CFL with any deal of success.

No problem man, thanks for the rep. I got most of mine from 1000bulbs.com I don't think they carry the Global Consumer Products (take a guess, they're made in China) 105 watters any more but do have good selection in veg and flower spectrums in the $25 range. Pretty cheap for 6-7k lumens. The GCP ones are still around but you'll have to do a bit of research. They're the most bang for the buck I ever got on cfl lighting.

yes i got 4 holes in the bottom of the bucket. is keeping the soil moist bad for the plant. and will the 32w light work. im not trying to grow the best bud.

Best i have seen is 43g off 2 plants in a case with 2 x 23w 2700k cfls. U have to really know what your doing to get that with 46w of cfls.

You want the top couple inches of soil to dry out. For your little plant wait for one inch of soil is dry then water again.

i have put my 23w 2500k bulb in there also. and is 18 hours of light with 6 hours of no light is that good.

unless it is an autoflowering plant you'll have to switch to a 12/12 light cycle once you're ready to flower - and yeah man pick up some more lighting. CFLs are not that expensive. You'll need to do some research but I'll start you off by saying anything I've bought from Fox Farms has worked well for me.

* we ALL were noobs at one point so dont be dismayed, its like being in the gym with all the buff freaks.. they just got time and experience on their side, lets get you going on your green journey :blsmoke:

--first up, you need to read the basics. maybe a simple book or two about Cannabis
-- this will help your CFL needs, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_fluorescent_lamp
--since your on CFLs, try 20on/4off instead of 18/6.. just a suggestion.. :)

do you think it would be fine if i had a 6700k with a 2500k going at the same time. for 20on/4off

you want more of the 5000k+ for veg and more of the 2500k-3000k for flower. 5000k+ = stem growth 2500k -3000k = flower growth

ok thanks. how many lights would be too much for just one plant. im thinking about getting one of those y splitters and have 2 light bulbs just on the one plant.
