Comparing LED vs a 250W HID system in small space

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if I could use a LED set-up when I start to flower. I currently use a 250W MH for the vegetative stage but the heat is becoming an issue to control. Since LED lights give the less amount of heat I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts in regards to comparing the results between say this LED mentioned below and a 250W HPS. Would the extra heat be worth the extra yield? If any?

-Diamond Series LED from Advanced LED lights , 200W Core Coverage 2.5 ft x 4 ft (http://www.advancedledlights.com/3w-led-grow-lights/new-diamond-series-leds-extreme-3w-led-technology/)

With that HPS I have gotten over 5 ounces before with my set-up and SCROG. My space is 32''x22"x72 and I use a GH Waterfarm with a micro-pore boss hog air stone and Flora series nutrients.

Would this LED given the same method I always use, give me a comparable result that I get using a 250W HPS?

Any info or tips I would greatly appreciate, thanks for your time everyone.

Hey mate, After tons of research I am about to buy the Pro Grow 400 currently. I asked the friendly staff at Hydroponics Hut what sort of space it was limited to and they told me the light is recommend to always be about 18" above the canopy. They suggested I build my grow box 1.3M tall to get a 1M plant.

Also the Pro Grow 400 is said to be as effective as a 600W HPS, Im not sure if this is true but im hoping it is.

I've got 2 ProGrow 260s in a 2'x4' (175 watt actual draw each, 350 total) They are little badasses!= 43.75watts per sq. ft.

I've also got a Cali LW 200 (162 watt actual draw). These run Hot, so you will need some headroom. (72", your good)= 33.3 watts per sq.ft from 1 light source is not enough in your space. But, 33.3 WPSF would work from 2 light sources (2 lamps are be better than 1), So...

My suggestion for that space is (don't laugh); 2 Blackstar 135uv UFOs (80 watt actual each) They are cheap, but work great. 150grams? No problem. Or, for overkill; 2 Blackstar 240uv (133watts actual draw each).=55.41 WPSF

^^^ that guys on the right track, I am rocking two PG180's in a 3.905 sq ft. space, 292 actual watts, 74wpsf.

Go with multiple panels- better coverage, more draw, more spread, better spectral balance and mix. It is the way to go.

Pro Grow's are in my journal. vvvvvv

^^^ jesus christ..

What do you think of the Chromes?

Journals? pics? And induction??

Yea, would love pics.

Been checkin out Rhino myself.

Also OP- I strongly suggest looking into Area 51, having a killer "end of the year" sale, and seem to be rocking today's market.

Still in testing. So far, impressive. For professional use only.

Journals? pics? And induction??
No journals or pics. Ever. Sorry.
The inda-gros are amazing for 215 watts. Comparable to 400hid without the heat or bulb swapping.

Been checkin out Rhino myself.
Just scored on Ebay. Don't have it yet.

P.S. I only use a few of these lamps at a time. Don't want to give the wrong impression.

Just a piece of advice, whichever LED you go with: the plants will take roughly 30 days to adjust to the LED spectrum, so take that into consideration when switching over. Your first harvest may be a bit underwhelming, but it will get better. You can influence the epigenome of an organism only so much within it's lifetime, but the real change occurs between generations.
