Coma's first DWC! Bagseed, 400w MH.

So, after a long hiatus, I've decided to get back to growing. At the moment the only seeds I have available are bagseed. I was getting my light fixture repaired after a problem with the ballast, and it's ready for pick up tom. Which means it's time to germinate seeds, clean out the old res, and flush the air stones. In the past I ran an Aeroponics system, and a bit of soil. Due to problems with my water pump, I decided to switch to DWC, and just fill my res up with nute solution up to the bottom of my net pots. My res has 5 net pots in it although id like more because it's a big res. My light is a 400W Hortilux blue daylight bulb. And my air pump has 2 3-inch air stones. Because of my last grows I have all the necessary nutrients for veg and flower, and all I need to buy is a small bag of hydroton and some rockwool or some sort of medium.

I'm too high n tired to post any pics right now, but i'll get to it tom. after i get my light fixture and clean my res n airstones. from reading up on DWC i'm optimistic for my yields and ease of overall grow.

Have a question or two, if someone could get back to me on this, id appreciate it :)

I have 5 net pots in my res, but i'd like more than 5 plants, i might put a couple seeds in one or two of the pots, i know its a bad idea especially with bagseed, but if there is a male, could i cut it at the bottom of the stem, and leave the roots so i dont damage a potential female?

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!

Sounds awfully risky. Specifics on the res size? And is cutting a couple more sites out of the question?
ya i know it is really risky.

it's a 10 gallon res, and cutting another site is out of the question for awhile.

Right now i'm just weighing the lesser of two evils.

EITHER i plant 5 and run the risk of getting 3-4 or even 5 males, and have all my work and energy and nutes wasted.

OR

I plant more than 5, run the risk of root tangle, and damage to other potential females.

I'll be posting all my pics a little later tonight while i set it up and clean my grow room.

ANYONE that could shed some light on my dilemma, please help a brother out.

ya sorry, it's a 13 gallon res (not that it makes a huge difference) and im only popping 5 in there. if all goers well with this grow i will consider buying the materials for individual buckets OR a huge res.

Camera was being stupid last night, if im not too drunk later those should be up shortly.

thanks for the input guys!

OK! here's those pics i've been promising. Not as many pics as i wanted but my camera was not being very cooperative last night.

Heres my res, with net pots. 13 gal.photo (10).jpg

This is my Sun System switchable ballast 400 w fixture. Held up by Sungrips (work fantastically)photo (8).jpg

My fan, dont have all the specs for a vent system yet, so im using this in line fan to cool of my 400wattter (it gets pretty hot!)photo (9).jpg

Im going to the inside of my res a little later and ill update you guys on how my germination is going.

Any questions, comments, concerns, or ANY advice on DWC is greatly appreciated.

I do not recommend this. It is far easier to control individual 5 gallon DWC units. For any number of reasons. DFead plant in multi-plant grow? Cut the stem and the root mass dies and you have big problems. Res solution goes south a bit? All your plants are screwed. All your eggs in one basket goes against even simple folk wisdom.

100% agreed. Buckets are cheap. You could even use smaller/cheaper 3.5 gal buckets and be way better off. Assuming you already have an air pump, all you would need are airline splitters, some airstones, buckets. Use your existing netpots and cut holes in the bucket lids for one netpot per bucket. Your transitional cost would be less than $20US if you played your cards right. At the absolute MAX you would spend MAYBE $30. This is te definition of a wise investment. Invest in success! =]

I do only plan on vegging for a very short period of time. I do however realize that this is super risky. and not a good idea.

I'm just struggling with waiting to plant, until i get the funds to buy that stuff albeit very cheap, a guys gotta eat.

I know it's way wiser to wait the week til i get paid.

But instant gratifications a bitch.

If i do go through with this, what would be the best course of action to take during the grow. i.e. things to watch out for, etc.

Thanks everyone for the solid advice and keep it coming plz

I say this about singles because I have done both. One time with a multi-plant grow in a single tub like that. 6 plants, one died and it was not fun. Root masses were greatly entangled. Yield suffered and pH swings were hourly as undiscovered dead roots would rot. Never again.

Buy some buckets(very cheap) and use that 13 gal as your res feeding the buckets. Very cheap simple and effective

Just a quick update, the pics are a little low quality but im sure you get the picture. Have a homemade humidity box with 8 rockwool cubes filled with my beans. they were presoaked in water for 24 hours and then paper towels for 24 hours each with a little taproot popped. A 60w CFL over it for heat. and its in front of a vent for even more heat. not planting all 8 but ill cut the weaklings a lil later on.

Here's just a quick update on my setup.

Even got sprouts now! photo (10).jpg(the pic doesn't show em.)

I do have a few pics of them on another thread and dont want to double post all of em.

They seem to be growing slow and weirdly like some leaves are bigger than others on sides of the plant. have no idea why.

Either way you guys can take a look here and tell me what YOU think. It may be nothing and it may be something but im just gunna wait it out. see what happens.

https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-plant-problems/636540-slow-growing-sprouts-more.html

I'll update as soon as they shape up, or keep growing slow and odd. lol

Ok heres an update. all my plants have about 2 nodes now, but something weird is happening to some and not others.

One is growing slower, and the leaves have spots on them, also it is growing in a weird shape. photo (19).jpg
yet another one, is growing fine, but its hunched over AWAY from the light, not towards it.photo (17).jpg
and here is the control plant, the one directly under my light in the middle of my res. she looks fine. photo (18).jpg
for reference here is a pic of all of them the bottom right is the one with spots, the bottom left is the hunched over one.photo (16).jpg

Their water is the same and everything is the same, why the weird growth on some?

Does anyone know whats happening with my less than healthy plants?!?!?!

if so please please comment!

I know i should have turned my HID off for the pics but i couldnt yet and i cant take the pics later when i turn it of so this had to do in a pinch.

Ok so it's day 5 of my grow, and I like what I see for the most part. there are a few glitches in my system already but nothing too bad.

My last post featured some pics that were terrible. So I popped my light on a timer so it can go 18/6, and took some better pics. Earlier today I threw in 3 tbs. of Nutes for the 13 gallons/5 plants.

Now as I mentioned in my last post a couple of my plants were not looking so great (I know you can't tell much from the pics). Now one of those weaker ones shaped up! but one is getting worse :(

I don't know what the problem is, my other plants are fine, great even. It might be a good idea to pull the one that is getting weak, i know I might need the room in the res. but im not sure if I can rule it out yet. You guys can be the judge!

photo (22).jpgheres all of them!
photo (23).jpgThis one is situated top right if i was looking at it straight on. It looks fine, except for a little brown on the tip of the right leaf.
photo (24).jpgThis is the worst one! Browning leaves, curling up, growing slowly. WHY!>?!!?! (bottom right)
photo (21).jpg(top left) Looks great, again leaves curling downward a bit, in other words they look droopy :( but overall healthy looking
photo (25).jpgThis one is a little funky because its the bottom left, and it's stem is curved far away from my light but it opens up to the light (obvi) WHY?!?!
photo (20).jpgAnd Last but def not least (middle) My control plant Looks very healthy, growing perfectly, no problems at all. (I think, Right?)

Ok so there are my 5 babies, after 5 days.

Should one of them be cut loose, (The sick one) Should I try to keep her?

How do the other ones look?

Anyways dont want to ramble too much, so please any comments, questions or more importantly answers, please get at it!
