College Admissions Scandal

So rich people can buy their way into and out of anything, shocking lol.

I know, right? Many people are acting like this is really big news.

It's not. Rich people have been buying the way in for their kids for generations. Remember George Bush, who went to Yale, but did not go to many classes, and got C's. Then he went into the Reserves, but did not do much actual duty, he just didn't bother to even show up.

The only news is that they are going to charge some folks.

No I dont. I believe in rich privilege. I believe money walks the talk. You are no better then uncle buck if you use every opportunity to make something about race.
Yes, it's quite common for white men to believe they have it as just as hard as anybody else. Then again as right wingers like to say, a fact doesn't have to be true for it to be believed.

This isn't to say no such thing as rich privilege too.

I don't understand the need for paying to get your kids into college. I'm sure all of those that caught up in this would have easily been admitted without any financial incentives from their parents.

This youtuber is Rhodes Scholar material. Why her mommy felt the need to buy her way into college defies logic.

Only privilege in US I see is green privilege. Race means nothing if your holding the green.
if these kids would have been easily admitted why did their parents pay for admission? Pure arrogant insurance policy?

I didn’t say it didnt exist im simply saying when you have green regardless of race you enjoy the same privileges. When i hear white privilege i hear white elite privilege which is 10% tops of whites. Nobody ever gave me anything I didn’t earn because im white . I understand many have though

Maybe nobody ever gave you anything that you are aware of, but you have certainly been the recipient of several things that you may be unaware of. Basic respect, opportunity and dignity come to mind.

I can see how the word 'privilege' is a bit of a ink blot test.

There are so many examples of DWB, or stories like a black kid in a nice hotel getting tackled by a girl who assumed he stole her phone and having the hotel back her up, or like the director of Black Panther getting detained for withdrawing money from a bank.

Green buys a lot of breathing room to deal with the systemic issues that 'white privileged' people don't have to deal with, but it doesn't erase them.

Maybe so but where do the dirt poor whites fit in? What happened to their privilege? The respect and dignity part come from a humans moral fiber not skin imo. Trash is trash . I don’t consider myself a bad person but i really cant think of an opportunity in my lifetime that wasnt there for all. I went to the same schools , lived in the same projects, worked the same shit jobs.

Thats racism and i fight that with you. But thinking we all got privilege is a bit of a fallacy imo

Comes down to the word 'privilege'.

I think about all the times people get pulled over after a shit day at work when they are not breaking any laws, just because the racists in those neighborhoods don't want them there.

There is a reason that about 97% of all the land in America is owned by white people. That is the real white privilege.

White people have the 'privilege' of not having to worry about their kids getting pulled over for DWB, a business owner not wanting to hire them because of preexisting notions of how they will perform based on their race, or having their property appraised for significantly less than identical properties just because it is owned by a black person.

Not having to deal with the social/economic drags caused by racism is the 'white privilege'. Again the word ends up being a ink blot test, it is not like you get a free toaster being born white or anything, so the word 'privilege' triggers people when it shouldn't.
