Howdy all,

I noticed today my boy is starting to drop his pollen. Please advise on best method to collect.

He is outside at present, but ill move him in for collection.

Chop and place into H2O?

Keep him in the container?

Would love to hear your input

Thanks all !

I pick the flowers that have just popped and the stamen are now releasing pollen. I get a bunch, 20 or so, in a little plastic measuring cup and bash them a bit gently and all the pollen falls out. Then it's easy pick out the flowers and you're left with the pollen. I got wax paper, and made little piles of pollen on the wax paper, then folded it over and sealed them with masking tape. Into a ziploc sandwich bag, and into the freezer.

This is a thread on turning plants for pollen, but also has info about using and storing pollen...hope it helps answer your questions.

I used cooking paper folded into glass tubes. Don't bother getting a whole plant's worth. Just a flower or two is enough for all you will need.

Just cut the tops off before they start dropping pollen. Put them in some water and over something to collect the pollen.

I collect as much as I can and freeze what I don't use in case I want to use it again in the future. Then I don't have to grow out another male.
