Cold Climate Growers

Hi Guys - just wanted to make a thread about growing in cold climates. We have the problem, that every year we are dependent of a nice fall to ripen the plants. What do you do to make sure harvest is safe?
One thing i learned is that local pot seeds often are climatized to handle the local weather, so this can be a great beginning.
Last year i had Durban which did not finish in time. I harvested grow tips with very little bud and almost no trichomes - doh.
What strain is by your opinion the best commercial outdoor strain (that people can buy seeds from)?

I actually grew Holland's Hope many years ago - just thought new more powerfull strains had come up. I tried Silver Pearl and Early Pearl. But that summer had a very nice fall where all the plant were very decent. This photo is a Durban from last season - didn't finish, but still bud was more potent than the hash people buy around here ;O)

Am in NW WI, there probably aren't a lot of shorter growing seasons. Had good luck last year with Early Pearl, harvested in late September when it got close to freezing, it turns out I could have let them go but the trichs were about where I wanted them anyway.

This year, more Early Pearl, but am also trying Early Blueberry, Early Skunk, and Purple Maroc from feminized seeds and that have about the same flowering period. Have the seedlings started, am putting them under about 16/8 flourescent b/c that will be the light period when it's safe to put them out.

I live 200 km South of the arctic circle but far above the arctic tree-line.
Im attempting a semi-stealthy outdoor 1 m2 greenhouse grow supplemented with some red spectrum LED lights to adjust for the arctic sunlight.

Im guessing my best shot at success is an autoflower strain, so Im starting from seed with Joint Doctors Diesel Ryder.

Does anyone else have experience with outdoor grows in arctic or sub-arctic climate?

i am in north central MN and will be doing purple maroc as my primary outdoor strain this season. it was a bitch but i was able to get 2 decent mothers out of 6 seeds that i started indoor in february. built up a decent arsenal of clones now. it seems like it should be an excellent strain for our short growing season. best of luck.

im trying purpe gem auto fowers this year supposted be 9 weeks from seed and im hoping because the turn purple the might be able to handle the cold a little better good luck with srping everbody

Im from north too, ill do autoflowers like lowryder2s and auto aks this summer. and some danish typhoon which is not autoflower but and early strain. you can check out nice genetics for northern climate from danish sites or you can just go to christiania
