coffee grounds

i was in starbucks the other day and saw that they give away free bags of used expresso grounds. the package asserts that the grounds have a ph averaging 6.9 and a carbon nitrogen ratio of 20-1.. does anyone think this could be beneficial to future grows or just leave well enough alone?

If you look at the grow FAQ under organics, there is a list of organic soil blends, and one of them includes coffee as a nitrogen agent. Also, with a little extra research, it seems like a good idea. The acid in coffe grounds is water-soluble, so it should be, as you said, pH neutral. I would be careful not to go overboard though. start with a little sprinkle or light initial mix, and then increase the sprinkle or put more in when you re-pot. Hope this helps.

I think it would be better to compost it along with other organic matter then add it later.

Good for the outdoor grow because as well as the nutrients, coffee also acts as a deterent to slugs, who go apeshit then die when they slime their way to your plants...cool
