Has anyone ever usesd Cocogrow coir from botanicare??
Dude if thats the bricks you are talking about, i steer clear of that mess. too much work for me having to wash, and wash, and buffer it till its ok. I just use the loose canna coco. open the bag, and go. no extra work.
Not saying that canna is the only good one, there are other brands of loose coco that are good too.
Its just those brick are just a hassle. trust me. hope that helps.

i am using the brick style stuff with few problems, none of which are not fine now, I never washed it or buffered it, what do you hear about it, there is not much info on the stuff and I have posted a few threads with no response that mattered, Thanks JR

have a look and comment please...https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/334668-havng-trouble-coco-mat.html
yea man you have to buffer that stuff when its in brick form. like i told rasta the loose coco is already buffered so that is not a concern when you get that. also like i said there are a lot of good brands of loose coco out there, and some of them are real good, some ok. i personnally use canna coco. not to say its the best, i mean to me it is, but the main reason that i use their stuff along with their nutes is because for one its already buffered, and most importantly you can use straight tap water, and lucky for me the water where i live stays between 5.5 and 5.8. and since canna recommends a ph of 5.2-6.2 im good. but thats just my personal choice.
as far as your problems i checked your profile didnt see anything, except for yor set-up, and those two "BEAUTIFUL" babies of yours. got one myself, kinda shiny jet black with a white patch, looks like a smokey silvery brown in the sun. but hey, sorry kinda went on didn't i, but i L-O-V-E that breed. and yes, you would get licked to death. but put up some pics, or shoot me something. also if anyone could decifer that problem for you better than i could it would probably be Jberry, so put some pics up.

GRANTED, but what kind of success. how do your buds look, and taste, and burn, what is the yield , how is the high. i didnt say it could not be done, i said "I" personally use loose coco. nothing is impossible, maybe your mixture was enough to "BUFFER" it, you know. to make it suitable to grow in. thats basically what you were doing, becuase you didnt just get some plain water and loosen it up. but believe it or not thats what alot of people that dont know do when they first use bricks. sooo..., yea you have buffered your coco before. in your own unique and special way. but like i said before " I'm not saying that you cant do it." just giving my opinion.

This has been a very helpful thread. I stopped treating my coco like soil, and started treating it more like hydro. I started watering every day with some runoff, and my prayers seem to be answered. When i started watering daily, i had leaves that had turned yellow go back to green.

I went through three messed up crops before realizing that the soil was drying out and leaving behind salts.

The only thing is that you have to manage the fungus gnats a little more. I was not having to control the gnats at all when i was letting the coco dry out, but I also was not getting any yield.

Who has used General Hydroponics coco? My retailer started carrying it instead of Botanicare. He sais its the same "Grind", but the GH seams wetter to me.

one more question.
If i have hard water, which is basically calcium, magnesium, and Iron, would i be better off using that water, or use ro water with cal-mag as a buffer?

some say good, some say bad, the more i read the less I know.

The main problem with tap water is the chlorine/ chloramine... there are other possible issues like high sodium or toxins ect., but the chlorine is one of the main issues if your water isnt too hard or soft.

You could get a chlorine/chloramine/sediment removing filter instead of a RO machine if the chlorine is all you are worried about removing... RO machines waste a ton of water and the chlorine filters dont have any waste water... Both only put out a 0.5 - 1 gallon of water every minute so filling a big rez takes a more little time then your faucet.

Even if you use the tap water, I would consider adding a low dose of cal/mag because the cal/mag in your water isnt always usable and sometimes it is in a ratio that isnt so ideal.

My buds were fine , looks: check my avvy , taste: never smoked double gum before so I dont know but it tasted fine , yield: was just shy of 2 oz's dry from 2 plants . That was first time in coco. Now I get what you mean by "buffer" was not sure what you meant by that. Then again I could have been more specific (didn't mean to ruffle any feathers) in the way I PREPARED the coco brick. That was my experience and I was just sharing what happened for me .:eyesmoke:

I use RO from the vending machine at the store , it's ph is 6.0 .The nutes I use ( CNS17 ) coco friendly , the grow and bloom . I never have used cal-mag with it , and have no cal-mag def's . From what I understand from MY findings is that my nutes have enough in them. I ph test my water first , then add nutes , shake , feed to waste . Believe it or not I dont use no fancy ppm meters or anything besides ph tester and measuring shotglass.

Well, I answered my own question with a little experiment. I washed out 1 cubic foot of General Hydroponics coco until the water ran clear. I then compared the before and after, and it was like two different products, both visually, and performance. The washed out product seams to hold more air.

Those RO vending machines usually give 0-3 ppm RO. There is no way to check the pH as there aren't any hydronium ions floating around. The impurities are what causes the pH to change. Different meter will give random values for pure water RO/DI, but essentially the pH of pure water (0-3ppm is quite low and negligible) is 7, neutral.

You may have washed away the buffers in coco if it was indeed buffered to begin with... just a thought. You may want to try to re-buffer it with some cal/mag.

I'm not understanding , are you saying my plant's are being abused ? All I see are big fat green crystally buds . :-?

LOL, what are you talking about, how did you manage to get that idea from my post.

You said that the pH of your RO is 6.0, and I was clarifying how the pH for RO works.
