CO2 Smart Bags - ammonia smell in the room

Have 2x 260g bags hanging in in a 5x5 tent which is inside a 5x5 (currently sealed) room with aircon and dehumidifier. They are NOT exhale mushroom bags, they are ammonium bicarbonate white powder ones.

After 24-48 hrs, there is a noticeable ammonia smell in the room. I appreciate the smell may arise from a fermenting process creating CO2, however just want to be sure on safety to breath this air, mostly for myself ofc but the plants too.

Is this dangerous for myself? Maybe carcinogenic or another nasty?

“Inhalation: Ammonia is irritating and corrosive. Exposure to high concentrations of ammonia in air causes immediate burning of the nose, throat and respiratory tract. This can cause bronchiolar and alveolar edema, and airway destruction resulting in respiratory distress or failure.”

In the amounts you’re exposed to probably not dangerous but still not good because of the corrosive nature of ammonia.

Fermentation can create that ammonia smell, like when I make natto, there is a period where it smells like ammonia pretty bad sometimes. Sometimes if people jar up their buds too moist, you'll get an ammonia smell too.

"
Ammonium bicarbonate is an irritant to the skin, eyes and respiratory system. Short-term health effects may occur immediately or shortly after exposure to ammonium bicarbonate. Breathing ammonium bicarbonate can irritate the nose, throat and lungs causing coughing, wheezing and/or shortness of breath. Repeated exposure may cause bronchitis to develop with cough, and/or shortness of breath. Health effects can occur some time after exposure to ammonium bicarbonate and can last for months or years.

Where possible, operations should be enclosed and the use of local exhaust ventilation at the site of chemical release is recommended. If local exhaust ventilation or enclosure is not used, respirators are necessary. Wear protective work clothing and change clothes and wash thoroughly immediately after exposure to ammonium bicarbonate."

Yeah fuck that! All in the bin. If i do some exercise inside for 30 mins, ppm will rise to 1200-1600. Leave for the day and it stays high enough till morning when its back to 400-500.

Toss them in the trash and hang out in the grow room a bit during lights on. Supplemental co2 is good sure, but it’s hardly necessary and all the fungal/yeast based boosters are outright cons.

there’s a lot of snake oil in the weed business and it’s easy to sell people on because it’s easy to grow impressive looking weed so new growers see all this marketing and buy re-labeled mushroom grow bags or brown sugar with germs in it then see that their plants are good and attribute it to the nonsense.

If you bought them on Amazon you should be able to be refunded without return if you complain about them being dangerous to your health and the seller not properly listing them as such (assuming the seller/manufacturer did not include any warnings).

tbh when I started making diverse and heavy composting Plus organic top drsssing of my mediums, whatcha know my rooms will have 700-1500 ppm 24/7 and reduced my co2 tanks by 200%+. Before this I could see my room go down to 0pppm if tank became empty.

not only am I getting a amazing inputs of nutes, drought resistant, defenses, anti stress, decompost and so many things. why do you think in nature the trees to fruit to veggies and all plants don’t need. Infact more human ag goes on = more prone to disease and but also weaker plants.you can’t beat nature ;)
