closet grow

hey all so im thinking about doing a small hydro grow in my closet. nothing big, just a little something to have. im wondering if one 400 watt HPS will give me enough light to get a little plant going. also depending on flowering and timing how much can be done to speed up my harvest?

a 400w hps is a pretty powerfull light, it should be more then enough for something small

could i go smaller? with the proper light cycles how short could i cut the grow cycle if i wanted to start flowering when its only abit over a foot tall, do to space constrictions?

what size space? how many plants? what size pots?

yeah we need to know your size of your space man, but in you first post you said "to get a little plant going" so if you want 1 plant only, just get a 150hps for less then 100 bucks....those basically work on a 2x2 area. i do 2 5 gallon buckets with a 150 hps and a few CFL's

If you want to grow to approximately 12 inches tall then flower you'll be looking at ~90 days a cycle(30 veg + 60 flower)

If you just want a small op you can definitely go smaller then a 400w. Speaking from my own experience - I started with a 250w/small op..
but their isn't much of a cost difference between the 150w/250w/400w - The 400w however is an amazing light and has great intensity.
Whether you're doing 4 plants or one I would go ahead and grab the 400w. One plant under a 400w will have an amazing yield.

yeah i think im going to invest in the 400 for future projects as well as this. my space is about 4 square feet maybe a little larger. my plan was to start with 2-4 plants expecting two to three to die, leaving me with one or two plants to flower.

dont expect them to die bro. if you take your time and be gentle with them, they will grow. if your going from seed, you wont want to start them under the 400w. you some cfl's or put them outside for a week or so after sprouting

yeah my plan was to sprout with two cfl,s then place them under the hps light once they are about 4 inches tall. which will be when i take them from soil cubes to the hydro jar.
